My wife's new 2010 S was delivered yesterday and is being held until NHTSA reimburses my dealer the $4500 for my clunker which is still in my driveway. Unfortunately, my dealer will not release any cars until they have been paid.
I may go visit it tomorrow and snap a few pics. It is a Magnetic Grey with moonroof. Cannot wait to get it.

I got the same car, except Blue Streak Metallic, about 2 weeks ago, during the first week of Cash for Clunkers. I traded in a 1999 Ford Explorer that I owned since brand new. The Explorer had 150,000 miles and still ran perfectly and gave me 0 problems over the last 10 years but I could not pass up on $4500 for it. I always liked the Corolla S models since the last generation and went for it. Great car and even greater gas mileage!!!!!!

They let me have it the day I bought it, two weeks ago. The S Model is a hard car to get and you will be happy once you have it in your possession. I would curse their ass for not giving it to you right now though. You met all of the requirements of the program. It is all on the dealer to do the legwork and suffering, not the customer.

I understand your frustration but do you really blame the dealer?

S models are common here. They are the majority on the dealer lots. They don't last long but they keep getting new ones in.

Not around here in the Washington DC Metro area. The only ones that are common are the base model and LE model, which I don't really care for. The bodykit/foglights on the S model does the car some serious justice.
I was working with my dealer for 2 months while the Cash for Clunkers program was being authorized by Congress and the S Models get ordered and scooped up with a deposit before they even hit the lots. There is never one to test drive, especially with a manual.

As per CARS.gov:
Quote:
IF THE DEALER HAS THE NEW CAR IN STOCK, THE DEALER MUST ALLOW YOU TO TAKE POSSESSION OF THE NEW CAR BEFORE THE DEALER MAY SUBMIT THE CREDIT APPLICATION TO THE GOVERNMENT. PLEASE REPORT ANY DEALER TO NHTSA THAT DOES NOT ALLOW YOU TO TAKE POSSESSION OF A NEW CAR PURCHASED UNDER THE CARS PROGRAM. PLEASE CALL THE CARS HOTLINE AT (866) CAR-7861.
Does this apply to you?
Just wondering how many dealers out there aren't playing by the rules.
Sitting in the dealers lot until they get paid from Cash for Clunkers. I sooooo want this car!!! Note the "SOLD CFC" on the windshield.

I had contacted a few dealers in the area about 2010 base Corollas with a 5 speed. The internet salesguy ay Simi Valley Toyota offered just over $1000 off MSRP, which was better than anyone in the LA area that we had talked to. So I gave him a call and talked about the CARS program. I had a $4500 qualifying 1990 Merc Grand Marquis wagon that was a daily driver but showing a lot of age.
Looking at their inventory I saw they had a 2009 S with a 5 speed and loaded. Hmm.The 2010 had a $500 rebate. But the 2009 has a $2000 clearance rebate and the salesman took off an additional 2K. That pretty much erased the diff in price between the 09 S and the 10 base. So we signed a contract for the 09 and on the 24th they said they would go ahead and take the wagon. Done deal. Good thing we got in early.
So now Mrs. 58custom has a new car with a 5 speed like she wanted and I got about 3K more for the old wagon that I ever could have gotten for it from any private party. Sweet!

Purty. I wish my dealer had a MGM XRS on the lot when I impulse-bought my silver, I would have gotten that color. Also, on the alloy wheels. The S's wheels look best in real form.
