Considering a 2010 Corolla, I would like to know all major problems with 2009 corolla
Hi everyone I am in the market for an economical, safe, reliable car. I was considering a 2010 Corolla, but now i'm not so sure. I have heard alot of complaints about rattles, problems with steering pull, and mushy brakes. I would like to know other problems, and if anone knows for sure if any of the problems have been addressed for 2010. Thanks.

Economical = rattles, EPS (steering), no brembo brakes...
None of these are really "problems", just characteristics of the under $20k class.
You will read a lot about "oil consumption" but with thousands on the road, I have yet to see anyone stranded. However, the stock CD player has failed on several users, and does not have a clock built into it.
I just hit 36,000mi last week, no issues, rattles, failures...
Since you have "heard alot", why do we need another thread?
I find it unacceptable that a new car has rattles in it no matter how much it costs. My f150 is a 2005 and doesn't rattle, my wifes 2004 civic has 130,000 miles and doesn't rattle. Any vehicle that has steering that pulls in either direction has a problem, whether it is electric power steering or not it shouldn't be trying to steer itself. You don't have to have Brembo brakes to get a firm pedal. When you put the brakes on the pedal should not be going almost to the floor no matter what you are driving. I forgot about the oil consumption problem, but I think they fixed that.
Is true the car have a lot of rattles (at least the 5 I know), but in my case the rattles are almost fix (it took me a lot of time with the dealer), but besides that is a good car the fuel economy is great and is quite comfortable.
As Wildcar say rent it for a week that will give you a good idea of the car.
OK it sounds like the dealer will work with you on rattles. What is toyota doing about the steering and brakes. Those are rather serious issues, I just want to know that toyota is acknowledging they have problems and are fixing them, and not saying this is normal because it truly is not normal.
All other issues are as the 2009 were. Couldn't check the "oil issue: since there was not enough time during MY OWN oil chg! (I did have the TSB done last year and all is ok. If I remember, Gas was about $39cents per gal for premium and 3 guys came out to check you over when you filled it up!
The rattels, EPS etc are the same, but I have gotten used to them! I actually like the car after my 1st year! I have found that the sensitive steering is a + since I drive more carefully now!
Same as the drive by wire! THIS IS AN ECONOBOX ...NOT LIKE WHEN A REAL CAR COST $5000 LIKE 29 -30YRS AGO! No such thing as plastic then either, (everything was trimmed in metal!so a rattle was a big deal! GET used to it cause it won't get better! My 1st car was a Pontiac 1966 Le Mans ($3800 new!) Hell you could buy a cookie cutter house for $20k in those days! (a slice of pizza was 15 cents too!

You really should take a free test drive before assuming everything you read on the internet to be true. This would also be great time to discuss with your local dealer your concerns. If your aren't satisfied, I am sure there is a Honda dealer close by.
Most of us have zero issues with steering and brakes, some of us would prefer better performance (ie less body roll) or better aesthetics (ie: rear disks), but there are no fundamental design flaws in the steering or brakes.

There is nothing wrong with the steering or brakes so doubt that Toyota is doing anything to fix what's not broken. Corolla brakes are some of the best in the eco-box market - particularly XRS with disc & VSC which has saved my bacon numerous times on the idiots that do a 60-0MPH on highways around here (Most Ontarian's here can't seem to drive and rubber neck to inspect potholes on the shoulder). The steering feels more sensitive due to the EPS which everyone will be using soon. Like any new car...it feels a little odd for the first few days - just as driving any new car feels odd at first.
With hundreds of thousands of Corolla's on the road and just as many happy customers, you can't go wrong with a Corolla. Test drive one to see for yourself. Toyota, unlike the Detroit-3, stands behind it's warranty coverage which is why I'm loyal.
I had to use the brakes in a near emergency stop yesterday...they work REALLY well. The four wheel disc ones do anyways. I was going 65 kph and was down to 0 in an instant. Good thing too!
I've never had an issue with the EPS steering on my car. Its nicely weighted in the XRS model and the S model I test drove. Its responsive and supremely precise. I didn't like the feel on the CE model and I have no idea why there is such a difference.
I do have the back window rattles. I need to get those fixed sometime...but they aren't show stoppers. To be honest I've never once been in a car that didn't have a rattle. I'd love to be in one sometime. Some people are more sensitive to rattles than others is what I figure.

If you think that the Corolla's steering is weighted, then you haven't driven a proper sports car yet. To me, the Corolla's steering is too light, extremely numb and disconnected up to the point where it is devoid of almost any road feedback at all. To me, it's the
And a 65km/h stop is nothing. Try doing an emergency stop from at least 100km/h because somebody in front of you got distracted by talking on their cell phone and changes lanes into you driving 50km/h.

I only had rattling and oil consumption problems. The ECM update fixed the oil consumption. The rattling is a kind of occasional thing, very sporadic, and not something I really concern about. All in all, I am happy with the car. It does its work in an economic way.

Rattles...This is just plain Nuts! ( have owned the XLE since last June...Bought IT New and properly maintained. You can can take it to the bank.,..Every day when it hits 90 outside, the rattles like clockwork, and others have posted the rattles begin in the front dash start......my feeling is that there is just so much plastic in the car, It simply is the materials in combo with the temps!I have taken it out with most of the mechanics and they are also at a loss.
besides the rattles and the TSB that fixed the oil consumption issue, the car is just great (this is NOT anywhere near my 1st car either! Take the rattles out of the equation, and it is simply a pleasure to drive. It is quiet and comfortable without becoming mushy (this is my 1st econobox and my 1st Toyota......) I would put it up against any other brand...This has become absurd but it definitely exists and is reproducible. How elsE can you complain about a car that regularly gets about 51mpg with colder outside temps! At 1st the deale just thought I just wanted out of the car......We have gotten to know each other during the past year and both believe the other. I ADMIT TO OWNING CARD LIKE THAT, BUT OTHER THAN THESE MOISES, THIS THING IS SIMPLY FANTASTIC ON THE HWY....51MPG...SHEEESH!
THIS A VERY QUIET, COMFORTABLE AND ENJOYABLE AUTO! EXCEPT FOR THE DAMN RATTELS I gues I will suffer until this winter , then unload it for a Mazda 3 or something....51MPG....(SOUNDS LIKE WE ARE TALKING ABOUT A it is actually funny when a dealer and customer can agree on a situation) PRIUS HERE WITH THOSE NUMBERS!!!!!!
