Should I get a 2010 Corolla S?

Hey Everyone,

I am interested in buying a Toyota Corolla S in Magnetic Gray Metallic but I have heard the pick up is really bad and overall it is just an extremely slow car . A friend of mine said he floored it and the pedal stopped after half and inch (I don't know if there is something wrong with his)

What would you say are the pros for this car and what are the cons? Any help would be appreciated

And what colors are good?

I would say compose a list of all cars you intend to take a look at. Then drive all of them. Compare the features you do and don't like in separate columns. The car with the least don't likes should be the car you buy!

Another thing to consider; you are posting in a Corolla forum most of our views are biased/and or skewed. You should be the best judge of what you like!!! Good luck

I like my LE. Wasn't my first pick, but it was in my budget and new.

i guess depends on what you are after. Corolla is a great gas saver....and great for everyday drive. If you want something that will go fast...sorry not the corolla.

I dont really mean extremely fast, because I know they arent

I just don't want it to take forever to accelerate, for example on the highway ramp.

Also does it have a sporty feel? I am leaning toward it because it isa good price

If you want a more sporty Corolla, get the XRS. The engine is 2.4L vs. 1.8L and has quite a bit more torque.

Anyway, whenever I've driven a current Corolla with the 1.8L, I found it had plenty of get up and go for city driving, and was quite responsive on the highway.

i don't have an issue getting it up to speed on the on ramp. it accelerates to 80 pretty easily once on the highway... i've taken it up to 110, but it felt like forever getting there from 80. could just be in my head.

Thanks for the input everyone I really appreciate it.

Also, what do you guys think of the interior, is it cheap looking? (I know its not a luxury car, that not what I mean, I just mean does it at least look kind of nice)

and are the gauges like the xrs?

Thanks

Speaking from someone with a 09 corolla S and another high end car. If you are looking for any sort of speed or acceleration the corolla is the wrong car. Unless you opt for 5spd. Other wise like mentioned before it takes forever to hit 60+ on the highway even when having the pedal to the floor for many many seconds. I would consider the S and the XRS to be in different categories. Huge difference between the 1.8 and 2.4.

As for interior, it is one of best in it's class. If you are going after an auto, SERIOUSLY consider the XRS.

I mean what do you want for a car? What are your expectations?

Corolla's are geared more for comfort and fuel economy. If you want a more sporty ride you may want to look at a Mazda3 or civic

I test drove the S and found it a bit slow for my needs. Acceleration, especially with a few people in the car, was slower than I was happy with...that said I have two friends with Corolla S's and they like it just fine. The one found her S to be much faster than a previous car she was driving so its a matter of perspective. As always its about the test drive and seeing what makes you most happy.

I went with the XRS. The pickup and the power of the 2.4L is really nice. The pedal is responsive and the torque kicks in quickly. The only downside about the XRS is the suspension setup which is fine but not as sophisticated as that on the Civic Si or on the Mazda3 GT (other cars I was comparing). I'd cross shop a bunch of these and see what you like. Seriously....go and test drive. There is no other way to know.

I will say one thing...the 1.8L may not be the most responsive but it does make the Corolla one of the most fuel efficient in its class.

Thanks for the input,

well the XRS isn't really a option for me because I'm trying to lease and the payment is way higher for the XRS than the S, I don't know why, the MSRP isn't much higher.

Plus, the one my friend test drove had 6,000 miles on it, that probably makes no difference and it was a 2009 and he had 4 people in it. I really like the outside, the interior is good enough, the only thing keeping me from it is the speed, again i'm not looking for a racer or anything like that just decent, with some feel to it.

Have you driven it yourself yet? Don't go by what your friend says, you need to drive it yourself. Unless you're expecting a rocket ship, it will be fine.

...I used to have an 06 civic and I know that had pretty good speed and its only 8 more horsepower...will it feel like a down grade?

also, hows the sound system, road noise etc?

and i'm think magnetic gray metallic..any other color suggestions?

thanks

I've test driven both the Civic 1.8L and the Corolla S 1.8L. The Civic and Corolla have a bit of a different response but overall the two seem to be roughly the same. Thats based on my perception-o-meter and not solid numbers.

Magnetic Grey is the colour of my car...its a great colour but everyone seems to have that one now (nobody had a 2009 Corolla when I bought mine). The S and XRS look magnificent in white as well as blue in my opinion. Check those out.
