Terminating lease term contract?

I leased my Corolla last year in July, As of right now the buyout is $13,996. The cars blue book value is at $13,820 even with 20,300 miles. I lost my job, so I cant make the payments anymore. I was just wondering how much crap I' am I going to get my self into? As far as paying penalties and so on. The buy out is not that much more expensive than the actual value. Does this matter at all, or are they still going to charge over stuff just to make as much money out of me as possible. I was thinking of taking the car back to them, and paying for the buyout difference. Or it doesn't work that way.

You can't just return it and pay the difference; that'll kill your credit and you won't know what the difference is till the car goes to auction.

You can, however, sell it and pay the difference. The KBB trade value will be closer to what you'll actually get for the car. I went down this road about 10 years ago with a Tacoma I couldn't afford. I ended up finding a buyer rather than selling it to the dealer, but I still had to come up with a bundle of cash.

Which state is that? The thing is, they told me I may sell it to a third party, and I went ahead and did that, I found some buyers all of them just did not understand how this whole thing works, and did not even bother. Some turned it down because they found out they would be responsible to pay for the tax once they go and register the vehicle. People are just not very smart these days. Anyways, it wasn't a smart idea to lease a car in the first place, how should I do the transaction since Toyota has the title?

My guess if you took it back to your dealer they would give you roughly kbb trade in value and expect you to pay off the difference.

Or you could try sell the lease on one of those websites eg:

They gave me the option to sell it for $13,996 do you think I would be able to find someone for that price. The dealer ships around are asking almost $15,000 for the same model and about the same amount of miles. I figured someone how wants to buy a car that year would find my price to be a great deal. So far although I asked people to contact me only if they are serious and know how this works, I even explained how it has to be done, yet I get a bunch of morons calling me offering $10,000 cash or $11,000 cash. They start saying its cash man its cash. WTF since when does $10,000 cash worth the same as $13,996 Man some people are just plain retarded.

In our county, the leasing activities are more and more popular now.I just heard something about that, don't know the details. I think it 's different from your country. I have learnt many things from you. Thanks. I hope you can deal with your bad things quickly.

If I were you, don't post your phone number on your ad; just make them send anonymous email, and you can screen your potential buyers.
