I don't know if there is an official thread about rattles in your Corolla, but maybe this could be a good reference to see if people have the same rattles coming from the same place.
My 2010 Corolla S with sunroof has a slight rattle coming from the passenger front door. In the morning, there is also a slight rattle coming from the front dome light area, near the mirror.
I'm just wondering if someone owns a rattleless Corolla....
I haven't noticed anything, I've had mine for a week. The only sounds I'm not too cool with are the ones the clutch makes every now and again. Like a thump, almost like it stuck and then suddenly made contact.
I've had mine for 8 months. It's developed a number of noises in that time. There are a bunch of crazy noises coming from the headliner (especially in the back), there's a rattle near the driver's side a/c vent by the door, and there's a rattle somewhere in the driver's side door near the top middle of the window.
Very irritating. For these and other reasons, I actually regret buying this car. I wish I had gotten a Civic. I'm nearly certain this will be my last Toyota for a while, and that's a shame.

I purchased a '08 Civic LX in April '08 and my mom purchased a '09 Corolla S 6 months later. Due to health reasons, my mom can no longer drive and we need to sell one of these cars. I've put about 11,000 miles in each of the cars, so I am quite familiar with the strengths and weaknesses of both.
Anyone in the market for a '08 Civic LX with low mileage?
Believe me, my '08 Civic LX has its share of rattles....in fact, it has more rattles than the '09 Corolla S.
Mine has developed a rattle in the headliner right above my head. I do have the sunroof so it may have something to with the sunroof rails? Everything else is solid!

most inexpensive cars and economy cars will have its share of rattles and defects. we get what we pay for. but mine has no weird sounds and its almost a year and a half now.

Keep the corolla for sure. It has a way better engine than the civic. The civic is still using a single overhead cam engine that has no torque whatsoever. I mean SOHC...it is like 2X years old techology, even AE86 has DOHC...haha. we are talking about a current civic in the production lineup. The toyota engine is better and more practical for daily driving.

The Civics, Corollas, Accords, Camrys....they ALL have rattles. I've never been in a car that didn't have a rattle in at least one place. Most have multiple. As far as real reliability goes...Civic or Corolla are virtually the same.

the first car i owned was a 2000 accord v6 coupe and that car had 0 rattles even after lowering the car and doing a bunch of other stuff to it. 2nd car was a 2002 maxima and that car had a gazillion rattles which sometimes i got so annoyed i punched the door or dash or wherever the rattle was coming from. my current car 09 vibe has had an annoying rattle in the headliner the second week i bought the car. after almost 10 months i finally went to the dealer to get it checked. not sure what they did but it's gone =D i think i've punched the ceiling a few times or more too lol
i recently had a chance to drive my friend's 2009 audi a4 and i noticed a rattle somewhere whenever i hit a bump or uneven surface. even those cars get them too =/

My 09 Corolla has been rattle free for about 12,000 miles. I just noticed a rattle comming from the front of the car - it sounded like the dash. I started fumbling around and found it to be the driver's side sun visor. I pulled it down about a quarter of an inch and the rattle went away. I have a clip-on garage door opener on it, so that might have something to do with it. Anyways, it a no-cost and easy trick to try if you are hunting down rattles.
