I just bought a boat and the estimated weight is 900#'s,,,,, I just looked at a DrawTite Hitch & Wiring harness and I'll install hitch & wiring myself. If anyone tows a boat or trailer that is Approx 1000#'s and have positive or negative experience's please weigh in & give me a Yes or No & Why..
Thx
I'd be willing to bet money your rig (nice) is in excess of 900lbs. Look in your phone book and find some public scales. Spend a few bucks and have it weighed (tanks full, all your gear, coolers, anchors, etc.). Play it safe and don't estimate your weight. I towed 1200 lbs of motorcycles with our '05 Vibe ('yota 1.8L) and was disappointed. Auto tanny was constantly downshifting from 4th to 3rd and back even on flat ground. 4 bangers are just NOT torque monsters.

Presuming you could get the boat to the water OK, trying to haul a boat up a wet boat ramp in a light FWD car with no limited slip is no easy task. I've seen a lot of people launch OK with small cars, however at the end of the day when you need to pull the boat out of the water and the ramp is completely drenched, very different story. Traction control is not your friend for this either. I've seen a few cars end up with a trunk full of water as they try to "gain some speed" up the ramp by backing up way too far. Then someone in a truck pulls their boat out. Usually this wastes about 15 minutes which goes over REALLY well when there is a line of 10 people waiting to pull boats out at the end of the day.
Also if you have a manual transmission, forget about trying to tow 1000# + a car full of people, its murder on the clutch.
Not trying to be sarcastic or funny, but, are you serious?
It's not April fools day, yes I was serious with the question Son,,,,
"Ocellaris",, the Boat Ramp situation was my biggest concern,,,
Thx to all for your input,, I will re-think this idea.
should of keep this,, but gas went over 4 plus dollars a gal..
im pretty sure the tow cap for a corolla is 500lbs, this is largely because i 500lb+ momentum pushing your car from behind with that light rear end will put you off the road in cornering

I'm pretty sure you pulled that number out of thin air. If you look in the owners manual, the capacity is 1500lbs.
This is including the weight of all occupants, cargo, and trailer. I would say you will be cutting it close, but the biggest concern is going to be the boat ramp.

Correct, 1500lbs...... I just did a ball park on the weight of Boat, Trailer, Engine, Minn Kota Elec, Full Gas Tank, 2 Batteries, Seats & come close to 1300lbs.
Well, to close to cut it, I couldn't pass on the boat deal I got, but now I need something to pull the darn thing with. This is something Cheech & Chong would of done..
The wife will be so happy...
If the package really only ways 1300 pounds, towing it will be no problem with a manual transmission. If you've got an auto, I strongly recommend a tranny cooler and not doing this very often. If the boat ramp is steep, towing it will be the least of your worries. If the ramp you intend to use is paved and gradual, I don't see any problems.
Yes, I've done a fair amount of towing with a Corolla. Use your head, drive a little slower, and allow for a greater stopping distance.
