2010 Corolla XRS 2.4 Auto Tran. Fluid Level

I could not find the procedure in my manual for checking the fluid level?

Do you check it cold with the engine off?

Hot with the engine off?

With the engine running in park?

Thanks!

Typically, you would pull the dipstick out of the transmission after you've been driving it for a while, so it's at operating temperature. Let it sit for a few minutes, though. At least this is what I've always been told. You can certainly check it cold, too.

Turn the engine off first, and if hot, make sure your skin doesn't touch the engine block or any other hot parts. It will hurt, lol.

The most important thing is to check the fluid level on flat ground. Don't park on an incline, otherwise you'll get a false reading. The dipstick handle should be brightly coloured, so it's easy to find in the transmission area of the engine bay.

Your supposed to check the fluid hot (after driving a while), while the car is on level ground, the only difference from what svrajam said is you are supposed to check it with the engine idling, in park. Yes, you are supposed to check it with the engine ON.
(I clarify park because first, thats what the manual says, and second, because on Chrysler transmissions, you check in neutral because the transmission doesn't pump fluid in park)
