I have a 2010 S w/ Auto and I have noticed that my MPH is off by approximately 2 MPH. For instance, when I am going 85 MPH, per the optitron gauge, my GPS shows 83 MPH.
Also, I have to drive through a small town everyday while going to work that has the speed box's on both ends of town and if I go 25 MPH, per the optitron, the speed box shows 23 MPH.
Anyone else notice this? It's not a huge deal but I wonder if this slight difference has an effect on the values given in the trip computer or even my overall mileage. The trip computer may think I am going further than I actually am because it is reading higher MPH.
My '09 (S w/ regular gauges) shows about the same error in MPH (appx. 2)
Unless my GPS (which shows the same MPH as my Honda and my friends Monte Carlo) and the speed box (as you call them) are wrong?

I have verified my GPS in my 3 other vehicles and the MPH is correct in all of them, except the Corolla.
I drive a Corolla LE and I've noticed a 3 MPH difference. Oh well. At least now I feel like I'm driving faster when I'm not! :P
Yep, My 09 LE is 3mph difference. I get the same speed on the radar and the GPS, but the speedometer is 3mph different. Not as bad as my Dodge Sprinter which is 4mph difference. I think car manufacturers do it in a sneaky fashion because they know most people will set the cruise 3-4 mph over the speed limit.
The speedometer can only be so accurate since it is based on the number of times the wheel turns and does not take into account certain things like the circumference of the tire.
Keep in mind a new tire and a worn out tire themselves can change your reading by 2mph just because the diameter of the tire changes that much as it wears. Even different brands the same size when brand new are not all exactly the same size.

Yes, 2 mph same as yours on my 2010 Corolla S. Also 2mph on my 2008 Toyota Highlander. Probably Toyotas way of screwing us on warranty (36,000 miles comes quicker and before the car actually has 36,000 miles).

I set my speed to 60mph. I timed how long it takes to go one mile, figuring 1 minute/1 mile/60mph. Easy math. It would take 1 minute 2 or 3 seconds. So I figured I was off a wee bit, but it seems common place, so I won't care about it.
I actually had a PLymouth Voyager that was 4 mph off. I thought I was doing 55 but was actually traveling at 51...weird.
