Wiring help!

Just came up with a crazy idea.

Would this work?

Consider that the power behind the cigarette lighter is constant.
What would happen if my cigarette lighter is feeding power to the lights. Somebody opens the door and the dome lights start feeding power to the lights as well, what would happen?

What's the need of hooking it up to the cigarette lighter, if you are hooking it up to the dome light circuit?

So I don't always have to leave my dome lights on whenever I want it on? This also removes the purpose of having to add another switch too I guess.

I think I see what you are doing. The only problem is that they will be on as long as the ignition is on with that wiring diagram. You could take the dome light out of the equation and have the same result. Or you could go with just the dome circuit to have more control over them.

Right now what I have is LEDs connected directly to the cigarette lighter (with that controller that has a power button, so I guess it can be referred to as a switch). My LEDs turn on when I power on the car.

However, I want the lights to turn on whenever I open a door (assuming power goes to the dome lights when my car turns on)

Gotcha, but they will also still be on while driving. Don't know if you would mind that or not.

I don't mind having my remote-controller-thing on while driving. It already is because of my cigarette lighter. Now I want to know how to make it power on with my current wiring when I open my doors.

I think for the lights to come on with your dome light you would have to somehow bypass the switch, otherwise you would just have power to the light controller as if the car was on

A switch to select power either from the dome light or from the cigarette lighter with centre off might work.

What youll need to do for the dome light is bypass the switch for the LEDs and run the power past it. That way you can have them switched off to the cigarette lighter power and still have them come on when you open the doors. You may want to put a fuse at the very end right before your lights though. I don't think receiving power from 2 sources would be a problem, but better safe than sorry.

What you re trying it the same idea that I have been trying to do with my LED's. You don't need the cigarette lighter at all. The dome light has 3 wires connected to it, you will need to tap into 2 of them. One will give power (12V) to the LED's all the time, whether the car is on or off (and whether the door is opened or closed). This will act as the source. The other will only give power (12V) to the LED's when the door is opened. This one acts as your switch. This means that the lights will ONLY come on when your dome lights are on (aka the door is opened, etc).

I know this works because a friend of mine did it with her astra. My problem is that I couldn't figure out which wires I need to tap into without a wiring diagram. I tried testing different wires with a DMM but had no luck at all. Hopefully the diagram that was posted in my thread today will be the solution to my problem. I'll find out tomorrow!
