im going to buy a magnaflow muffler and do a custom setup and i want to go straight pipes but i know that the cabin will be all drone so i need a resonator preferably magnaflow do yall know if they make them
a muffler and a resonator are the same thing. the only difference is that a muffler goes at the end of the exhaust and the resonator is somewhere in the middle.

I'm sorry but you are severely misinformed.

well then inform me. quit being a douche and tell me the difference between the two?
from what i learned...a muffler reduces the sound out the engine's outgoing exhaust gasses.
and the resonator does what?? pretty much the same damn thing.
some will argue that mufflers uses baffles or chambers to reduce that exhaust sound and a resonator doesnt, then what is a canister muffler? is it really a muffler or a resonator?
A resonator is simply a small muffler for additional sound reduction and are usually a straight-thru design. They can be mounted either ahead of or after a muffler. The larger/longer the muffler/resonator, the more sound reduction.
Name calling, especially to a moderator.......dude that's just wrong!

A resonator is a straight thru small muffler placed in the middle of the exhaust system. It is exactly like a mini-muffler if your big muffler in the rear of the car happens to be a straight thru design. If you have a baffled muffler, then it is totally different.... that simple.
The purpose of a resonator is to smooth out the sound into a more continuous note and lower the volume slightly.

To heck with us, do what you want to do. Presuming the stock resonator is straight-thru, I can't see much benefit in replacing it. Going with the benefits of a straight-thru muffler is your best bet but again larger/longer is quieter inside the car. That's what the folks at Magnaflow explained to me and it goes for virtually all makes/brands of muffs.

You should go straight pipe first and drive around and see how you like it. You can always cut the piping and weld the resonator in to the piping. So id say just do both and see what you like.

A mod is just another person on here. And he was not misinformed. Resonator just cancels out sound to keep it quiter/tunes to a frequency and exhaust note.

Rules are rules, no personal attacks here. Mufflers and resonators are not the same thing either. Johncal gave a really good description.
There are various types of resonators and various types of mufflers, there are some crossover when you start seeing smaller, perforated straight through style resonators/mufflers, however typically speaking a muffler does a lot more to reduce overall sound level, and a resonator will do more to change the sound itself.
Some resonators (especially stock ones) are more tuned to the specific engine/exhaust, and some are just a widening pipe that gets smaller again to change the sound.
Resonators can take out specific raspyness or weird sounds in the exhaust, etc.
So yeah, they can perform the same function, but they are typically meant for slightly different goals.
