Clicking/clunking sounds

Hi everybody,

I have been driving my 2009 corolla for a year now and I wonder if others have been experiencing the same issues as me.

I have a clicking sound coming from the front passenger side. After I start the car and drive forward a few feet, I then place the car in reverse and as soon as I accelerate there is a loud click. Then as I drive forward there is another click. Also sometimes when I stop in my driveway and place the car in park there is yet another loud click.

I also have a clunking sound coming from the rear of the car. After I stop at a stop sign or red light, as soon as I accelerate there is a clunking sound. Only with a full tank of gas. After I drive about 50 kilometres the sound goes away.

Yes, I have talked to the dealer about this and we took the car for a drive. The mechanic would not shut up long enough to hear the sounds. explaining it away as being a new car/new owner and that I was not yet used to the car. And yes I have removed everything from the trunk including the jack and spare tire.

Should I be concerned about these noises? Has anybody else experienced this?

Thanks

x2!!!

Could be a cause for concern! Sounds like something in the drivetrain from your description!

The clicking sound could be the brake pads shifting in the support plates. I also have that clunk from the rear which I've also associated with a full tank of gas. It's probably the fuel sloshing and hitting the top of the tank.

I dont think the fuel sloshing in the tank would make a clicking sound. Otherwise we would all likely have this sound. If I have to guess I would look at the gas tank fuel level sending unit. The ones I have installed have a float on a lever that runs a potentiometer sending signals to the dash gauge. I could see that thing clicking on fill-up if it is not quite correctly made or installed. You usually have to drop the gas tank to access it, so I don't know if the dealer would agree that it is the problem and fix it.

CLICK = BRAKE PADS, CLUNK (THUMP) = FUEL

Also, loose or bad front sway bar linkages have been reported on more than one occasion making a rattling sound. Probably the brakes though.

I have a similar problem with the front passenger side. There is a loud clunking that surfaces periodically, especially when i fill the gas tank. I took it to the dealer and they said possibly the strut tower brace isn't fitting right (but they told me it was after market and couldn't fix it. but they didn't see i had an xrs so this has become a hassle... story for another time). Still haven't found the confirmed source however.

My 09 Corolla have the same rear drum clicking/whistling noise too!
But I put the interior rattling fixing in the first place so far. I did not inform the dealer about the braking issue yet because they do not have any intention to fix them and I wonder you might go to the same dealership as me because the tech did talk a lot to cover up the noise!

So many problem that I cannot endure!
