PDI plugs found in glovebox

I found these rubber plugs the other day while cleaning out my glovebox. They have a notice to the PDI people to put these in some sort of crossmember extension, whatever that is. Does anyone know what these are used for and how important they are? I will bring these up at my next visit to the dealer, but my next oil change isn't due until Dec-Jan.

I have a 2009 matrix base model, got it last Nov so it's already seen one winter.

Give your dealer a call if you do not wish to wait till your oil change. Ask them if it's important and if you can put them in yourself.

Those plugs go into the floor of your car. Water will splash up and soak your carpet with those not in. So they need to do that ASAP.

They don't go in the floor. If you look on the bag they're in, you can see a diagram showing where they are supposed to go. I had the same experience with my 2010 Corolla LE, found the plugs, read the diagram, looked under the car and found the holes where they should have been installed. It took longer to find the holes than it did to put the plugs in.

Where approximately do they go?

About 18 inches back from the leading edge of the rear door (see photo). Look just underneath the car, and you'll see a round rubber plug. Look a little further underneath and there is an oblong hole that fits the plug from the glove compartment. I assume that's the correct hole, since I didn't see another that shape (except for the one on the other side, of course). But now that I think about it, I'm going to look again. I wouldn't have described this location as a "crossmember extension".
