USA Question CAI and SHORT RAM? and MODin Engines

okay.. Whats the difference between CAI and SHORT RAM?.. and is it worth to having both on your car if u wanted?... oh and WOULD IT BE WORTH THE MONEY TO SPEND MODS FOR YOUR ENGINE FOR an 2010 Corolla S?..
like HEADERS? ETC.ETC.ETC.

would it add more torque and acceleration and H.Power to your S or not?..
would it be enough to satisfy the $500 plus money u would be spending to mod your engine?

thanks guys.. LOVE THE NATION OF TOYOTA!!!..

i want a Tundra hahaha

Well the only way you can have both is if you buy the Injen Model that converts into both.

The difference is, one sucks in air from outside the engine bay (so "colder" air)
and the Short Ram sucks in large amounts of engine bay air.
Both will give you minimal gains, like maybe 4-7 HP on a good day.
Only downside to CAI is that you have a greater chance of sucking in water, thus Hydrolocking.

IMO, it is not worth the money to mod the engine on an S, since when you are done modding you will have spent the same money as you would have if you bought an XRS.

BUT, if you still want to mod the engine. To get the best gains, you should modify your...
- Intake
- Headers
- Exhaust (At least CatBack)
- If you are ambitious upgrade your pulleys

Now those will only add maybe 15hp at the wheels (on a good day). So its up to you, but if you want major gains, forced induction is your new best friend.

Save your money......it might be worth something some day. Do a search, there are threads about "free" CAI's. Small power gains can be had at near redline rpm's. Virtually zero, zip, nada gains in the 1500-3500 rpm range where 99.999% of street driving is done. The 'rolla is an economy car with a small, high performance engine (132 hp from 109 cubic inches). As it is, performance is decent and economy is outstanding.

As easy as chips are to program and pulleys are to make, wouldn't you think the factory would have already made/installed them if they really made a significant difference??????????

LOL you keep using that reasoning...

The Engineers made the car to be fuel efficient and ideal as a commuter car. The engineers did not have Performance on their mind when they designed the Corolla. So therefore, NO the engineers/designers would NOT have installed such mods in the factory.

agreed... they had reduced fuel efficiency on their mind. Bigger engine, but not performance... with a few extra ponies. LOL

What's a forced induction? does it makes ur car accelerate faster? and how much of a cost would be?

Turbo Charging or Super Charging is forced induction...

and yes it will make your car a hell of a lot faster.

Cost however is HUGE, since there are no kits available for the Corollas. Everything would have to be custom made. There is a guy on here who is TurboCharging his XRS.

You'd be looking at $4000 or more

nitrous oxide is also another option for making the car fast.

unlike FI, nitrous is an on demand system. you only use it when you want to.

people will say you'll blow up your engine with nitrous but then just as many people who have gone with FI have done the same thing. you just have to do all your research to minimize the chances. that and a couple prayers.
