JBL Tweeters distorting

Hi all! I have the JBL upgrade (8 speakers 6 places). The sound has been great but it seems the tweeters in the front haven't been able to handle it. They sound fine at low volume but start to distort towards the 12 and up range. It's subtle but enough to bother me. I'm thinking about upgrading them but have heard this might be a problem cause they are wired in series with the woofer. any thoughts on the matter?

For what it costs, the JBL system sucks.

My '93 Accord's Bose system and my '02 Golf's Monsoon set-ups were both better than the current JBL system in my Corolla.

Eventually, I'll augment the highs with a pillar or dash-mounted pair of speakers...

not sure. i was thinking i would replace them with a pair that could handle more to avoid this in the future... but free replacement is always an option! Ill have to look into that

If there is you can always ask them to upgrade and pay for the difference.

I believe there's a thread about replacing and upgrading tweeters and speakers sometime last year here. Do a search. Or go to the audio forum.

let us say you choose to spend out of you own pocket and buy a different brand of tweeters at any auto audio shop and you plan to install them yourself, the way you will wire your newly bought tweeters would have to be the same as your old tweeters. all speakers including tweeters are constructed the same way.

the positive wire that was connected on the old tweeter will have to go to the positive side of the new tweeter. same goes with the negative wire from the old tweeter which goes to the negative side of the new tweeter.

try part-store.com if you know the tweeter part number. Back in the day they even had the alpine type-x tweeters for cheap.

I thought the JBLs are not bad in terms of bass, but they should have put an extra speaker in the front for more range...Talk to the dealer and see what they can do

Yeah that's the only thing i wish was different. The mid range is really lacking. Kinda wish I could add somehing to fill out the middle.
