Is Driving in D3 faster?

Is the acceleration faster when driving in D3 rather than D? If it is does anyone know the difference in the 0-60 times? This is on a basic 1.8L automatic engine.

My guess is D3 would make no difference at all. If doing a 0-60 time it won't shift into D4 untill somewhere after 60 mph anyhow.

Ok don't mean to rant, but D3 is not a single gear. It's two separate gears, D and 3. Move the stick to the left for 3 and to the right for D (or 4th gear). It still baffles me how people put there car in "D3" and drive around with the tack at 4 grand goin 40, totally oblivious that the car has a secret, magical gear that can only be accessed by moving the gearshift in mysterious ways... or maybe it's just the girls I hang out with are just dumb (one claimed she gets better gas mileage and the other just didn't know it was even there and also drove 5 miles with her e-brake on and leave her lights on even though she hears the beeping but just thinks the cars mad at her <--- My gf who I need to drop like a bad habit )

Driving in D3 does not make your car any faster. The reason you feel more power is that say when you are in D3 at around 30-35 mph; your car is in third gear. Thus a higher RPM rather then lower rpm if it was in 4th gear. So when you tap on the gas pedal in D3 your car is in a better powerband and picks up better then having to wait to downshift to get needed power. It is recommended that D be used for regular driving. I only use D3 in the cities at about 30-35 mph to get better power and not wait for the transmission to go down one gear.

Assuming your car is stock, why are you so worried about your 0-60 time?

The only thing D3 does faster is drink fuel at 60MPH, all you are doing is turning the overdrive off.

D is not a overdrive. It's just another gear.
