Rear Defroster Question (is this normal?)

Hi everyone, I just got my car last nite. And this morning when I drove it I was using the rear window defroster and noticed that the first 4 upper defrost line doesn't seem to be working? I am not sure if this is normal and don't know if i need to ask the dealer. I am a n00b. Please help! THANKKKKSSS!

Here is the pictures:

Check to see if those lines are part of the grid, I can see a larger space between the area working and not working. It could be the radio antenna. Most modern cars have done away with the external antennas and they are integrated into the glass.

Those are the radio's antanae(sp). Those below are heaters. So your car is normal.

my car does that too so I am inclined to think that the upper part of the grid is the radio antenna

from the pictures by the original poster the frost on the upper 4 lines seem to remain frosted with the defroster ON. i want to ask how long does it take for the frost to disappear when the defroster is ON. with my 2009 corolla i always have noticed that the frost on the last 4 lines were the last to disappear but it only takes about 5 seconds. so i have a similar situation with ericgu22.

The upper lines are the radio antenna, not defroster.

it is true that the upper lines are radio antenna but from the original post he is complaining about the upper part still frosted even with the defroster ON. like ericgu22 and myself, with the defroster ON, even the upper part the frost disappears. in my case it takes less than 5 seconds and all the frost in the rear windows is gone.

You're comparing temperature of Toronto and Vancouver. Have a look at the difference in your newspaper.

My defrosters work so well, I don't even have to turn them on.

But yeah, file me in the "that's normal" column.

Hey so I just found out today I had the same problem. I immediately thought of this topic.

Then I read the replies. Thanks to the people above for confirming that it's radio antennae.
