I got the right door panel off ok but I can't figure out how to get the driver's door electrical connector out of its socket. I know there is a release somewhere but I can't find it. A detailed description would help a lot. Thanks.

its been almost a week since i've had that door panel off. if i recall, you have to pull on it to release it.

I finally got the driver’s door panel electrical connector out.

I used a water-pump-pliers to grasp both ends of the electrical plug and pulled it out about a quarter of an inch. On the side of the socket there is a slot with a connector plug tab sticking out. Pulling the connector out a quarter of an inch pulls the connector tab to the top of the slot. Using a flat tip screwdriver, depress the tab ridge so it goes under the socket connector and pull the electrical plug out.

Hope this helps someone else out.
