Drove a 09 S while car at dealer

So my 08 xB went in the dealer on Friday evening for a water pump replacement and I wad put in A Corolla S for the weekend. Overall I really like the car, looks very nice with the lip kit and wheels. The fit and finish as well as the seats are better than my xB. Gas mileage is waaay better than 2.4 guzzler in mine.

The only issue I had with the car was the engine. Its down right pathetic, it struggles just get up to speed while trying to merge with freeway traffic. It was scary to say the least when I had my fiance and her parents in the car when we went out to eat.

I guess the xrs is the way to go but for what you get I think its way over priced. Maybe if I drove a 5 speed S it would have been different.

I'm curious to know the story behind this incident.

Please do share.

I don't know. I've got a 1.8 liter 5 speed. I just thrash the crap out of it and it goes just fine. Gotta work that baby if you want speed!

Ok here is the story I had a 2005 trailblaze ss that was my wifes daily driver but the kids got involved in a lot of activities and we had moved to the country so she was puting about 2000mi a month running the kids back and forth to town and at 11mpgs it wasnt very cost effective..so we traded it in at rolling Hills Nissan for a 2006 altima SE V6 hard loaded with everything except nav It had been wrecked before we bought it and the dealer fixed it and sold it as new...2yrs later rust was coming through the r.r. quarter fender under rear seat around the rear window,,had estimaes to get it fixed and it was 8-10 grand for repair...went to dealer they offerd me 3 grand for me to go away to fix the car or trade me out of it...3grand didnt help the rusted out car....fixing it didnt work for me (we had gone through 2 sets of tires in 35000mi plus i felt if they couldnt fix it right the first time what was the gaurntee they would the second time) didnt want to end up in the same place 2yrs down the road...so i decided to trade would be the best so they said this is the car and this is the price i took the lesser of 3 evils

I have the 5-speed and I have no problem keeping up with traffic even when I've had 4/5 people in the car. I wouldn't say it's fast but I have no issues keeping up with traffic or passing people when needed. Smaller economy cars with automatics are slower and suck.

it takes a bit getting used to when merging onto a busy freeway but for me with more than a year and a half with this car i've gotten it down pretty good....although sometimes if you wanna pick up quick the engine just screams and the car doesn't react until a few seconds later lol

Interesting to hear an xB owner make this comment.

Why? The 2az-fe has plenty of power and torque to get up to speed. I have the manual tranny too so I'm sure that has something to with it as well.
