Has anyone had a high pitched noise come from their car when the car wasn't even started?
This is what happened with my car the other day.
I unlocked my car using the key in the door handle method. Turned the key back twice because I would be opening the back driver side door first.
I opened the door, started to put some stuff in the back seat when I heard this high pitched sound.
looked around to find out where the noise was coming from or what was causing it.
It was then I realized the noise was coming from my car.
The best way I can describe what the noise sounded like is that it sounded a lot like the noise the car makes when you use the remote trunk opener on the fey fob.
The noise however was constant and it only stopped after I shut the same door.
I pretty sure that I wasn't accidently pressing any of the buttons on my key fob when this was happening and I know I wasn't, when I shut the car door.
The trunk was not open either.
If I was in an area where this noise wouldn't have been annoying to people, I would've waited to see if it stopped on its on or if it would've kept going until I shut the door.
As it was, it went for about 10 seconds before I realized it was coming from my car and then shut the door.
I unlocked and opened the same door again like I did the first time to see if the same thing would happen but, it didn't.
Does anyone have an explanation as to what might have caused this?
I've had the car for over a year and this is the first time this has ever happened.
It's the Sport model.

you accidently pressed the lock button on the remote? It warn you if you try to lock a door and theres one not closed properly... it beeps constantly until that door is closed.
The car beeps something fierce when you have the door open and try to lock it with the key. It's normal, just close all of the doors then hit the lock button.
I think I read somewhere in the manual for my Matrix that you might hear the fuel pump or something when the car is off, so maybe it just the fuel pump priming.

I have this notice of noise attached to my gear knob when I take delivery of my car. 1.8 LE (Canadian)
"Approximately five hours after the engine is turned off, you may hear an electric motor sound coming under the luggage compartment for several minutes.
It's not a malfunction.
It is the sound of a pump performing a fuel evaporation leakage check.
See Owner's Manual for details"
yeah this is what most newer model toyota's that have the keyless entry system do if you have any of the doors open and hit the lock button. i guess it's just a warning so that maybe you dont leave your keys in the car or something. just like if you have the key turned to the on/acc position, and you hit the lock button on the door. it will lock and then unlock all the doors
Tried what some of you suggested was the cause and, that's what it was. Thanks.
Kind of an odd feature though.
If it's meant to be a kind of an alert, was doesn't it do the same thing when you manually lock all the doors using the inside driver side door lock, while a door is left open?
While I'm at it,☺, why doesn't the driver side window automatically go up with one touch of the window up/down button?
My sister in law's vehicle(non Toyota) has that ability.
Seems like an incomplete option on the Toyota.
I don't like how it doesn't have a auto up feature on the driver side window too. I learned how to drive a 1 1/2 years ago on my mom's 4runner and I got use to the auto up/down and it really bothered me when I got my corolla back in march. I really like my sisters jetta, because all the windows have auto up/down and can stop the auto by push/pulling it again which I think is easier than what toyota does. and you can control all the windows up/down using your key on the drivers door
