Maintenance schedule questions

It seems like everytime I go for an oil change, the service dept. tells me I need some scheduled maintenance done. For example, they said today that I should get my tires rotated every 10,000kms. Also, brake service:$139, tb cleaning: $110, efi flush: $110, brake fluid flush: $98. That's about 5 bones with the oil change.
For an 09 with 55,000k's, this seems like alot to me. Do I really need this stuff done?

Tire rotation good idea, I have brake service at 60K, I find it saves money in the long run.
No to the rest of it.
Just my opinion.

Do oil changes, but be hesitant on cabin filters, those are a cash grab for dealers. unless you live in a dusty area, change them less often.

Brakes should be inspected and serviced as needed regularly. They are quite important.

Tires every April / November, its when I do the winter tire swap. which also works out to be about 12,000 - 15,000 km

My dealership has only tried to sell me the air and cabin filters.

They brought them out and I took the 20 year old kid to school a little bit.
Although according to Toyota both of them were do a replacement.
I showed the kid how to read an air filter.

I told them to put them back in and I would take care of it myself.

My service writer is a great guy and we get along really well. I told him that I understood they had a job to do but they needed to limit it to women and people that don't have a clue about automobiles.

I have done my own maintenance on my cars since I got my first car at 13.

The dealership I bought my 09 S from has a program that offers free tires and engine for the life of the car as long as you let them change the oil and rotate the tires every 5 thousand miles.

When you start doing the math, it is obvious they are making money but since they have been really good to me with loaner cars, and they get me in and out in under 30 minutes, I am going to go with this program until the first set of tires anyway.

I am putting a lot of miles on my car and I think I will eventually be better served by running Full synthetic and using Black Stone Labs to help me set higher mileage number for the oil changes.

An oil change with toyota filter and mobil extended performance semi synthetic costs me 41 dollars after my discount.

That's only 34,175 miles. You shouldn't need brakes at the mileage.
The throttle body shouldn't need cleaned either.
Way too early for a brake flush as well.

I would definately talk to your service writer and explain that you are losing faith in them because of them continually trying to get money out of you.
They can flag your account with notes that keep them from "suggesting" things that don't need to be done.

I am a salesman, I never try to oversell customers. Getting people to trust you is huge. I work off the idea that if I gain their trust and make suggestions to them as if I were spending my own money I will make more money off of them in the long run by their repeat business.

Good info.

How do you save that?
I tried putting it on clipboard but it is unreadable.

All the inspections they do at my dealership are covered under warranty and they don't charge anything extra.

My 30K service is just about due and I asked my service writer if the tranny fluid should be changed and he said no.

i just would reccommend seeing everything they try to sell. A lot of dealers will sell you packaged services that contain pre-mature items like 30k brake fluid flush, power steering, and trans flush. A throttle body service should not be that early ever. Seems like they are trying to hose you. Ask to take a look at the fluids and if they are absent of color then id flush them. I think our corollas might have 100k tranny fluid.
