I got a 2010 corolla LE as a rental, for 1 year. man this thing has bad fuel economy! I am averaging 33mpg highway. I can see the fuel gauge going down as I drive. the fuel economy indicator is so ridiculus, it jumps around so erratically, it is useless.
I've had a 90, 2000, 2008 (still own) and a 2010 (rental). there is no comparison in fuel economy; the 2010 doesn't have it. on a full tank, the range on the 2010 is only reported for 369miles. on my 2000, I went as far as 420 miles per tank. 2008, I haven't had a chance to take it on any long trips yet.
but the 2010 does have better ergonomics it seems and the MP3 player comes in handy.

I've gone over 450 miles on a tank in my 09 Corolla S. I usually get 36-38 mpg in mixed driving and the one trip I took on the HWY I got 42 mpg. I'm sure that I could also get 33 mpg on the HWY if I kept my foot into it a bit more. Most people don't understand how to get better mpg and how easy it is to waste fuel. Other factors that will hurt mileage is low tire pressure, winds, snow, rain and of course, speed!

Up until winter hit (I live in WI) I was averaging around 35-37 MPG for mixed driving, and around 41-43 MPG all highway. I'm sure if I did more gradual accelerations and such it would climb. As it is right now, the cold weather and longer warm-up times have me at only about 30 MPG for mixed driving
On a side note, I do tend to notice that I can hit mid 30's when it is all in-town driving too (mine is a 5-spd). That is a large improvement over my other vehicles, including my 05 Accord LX. Overall I'd say this car does quite well for what it is.

Sucks for you I guess, I usually get 31 city and once on a 2 hr drive highway I got 42 mpg. Maybe it's your driving habits rather than the car. Sorry if I sound a little blunt but you can't make a blanket statement like that. And this isn't a freaking hybrid car. The ads say 35 mpg average. Meaning not everyone. Maybe you whore your A/C compared to others. who knows. I'm not trying to troll but at the same time, your remark was pretty general. It's not like you drove 30 corollas with the same results lol.
btw this is with a 4 spd AT. sooooo yea.
And the tank isn't big compared to trucks and whatnot. You could be getting worse mpg with other cars so idk what to say man.
I have a AT XRS '09, not living in a cold city, no snow here.
Light/Normal driving = 26-28 mpg City / 35-38 mpg Highway
Fun/Aggressive driving = 26-28 mpg City / 26-29 mpg Highway
Sure, those numbers are based on the dash AVG. reader, I need to do a manually calculated MPG.
However, with my usually aggressive driving style, I am lucky if I hit 300 miles on a full tank. Today the car get 1 year since I bought it, no problems so far.

You gotta drive the speed limit or less to get over 35 MPG on the highway (50-65 MPH) except on the hills...but how can you complain with 33? Also, you still have another 40+ miles left after your range says 0. I had 1 mile until empty on my car...got a fill up and it was only 11.5 gallons
Also, why do you have a year long rental?

Drive a tank full of gas at 55mph on all highway route with cruise control on and you should get about 42 mpg with an automatic. Probably a couple of mpg more with a 5 speed. If you are significantly under 42 mpg under those conditions, you should start to figure out why. Your air filter may be dirty or your tire pressures may be off, etc.
ttman is not even attempting to get good economy with the foot in it like that...Good results are easy. Check my signature.
Easy take offs, traffic light anticipation, moderate speed to start. Pressing the gas pedal=investing in momentum, when you work to conserve momentum you find you touch the brake pedal less, and yet still travel at very reasonable speeds.

Guys, ure missing the OP's point here ---> he's talking about a 2010 NOT 2009 model. My 2010 corolla CE has bad fuel economy too. Now that i have winter tires on, it's even worse! At around 10L/KM = 24MPG (as indicated by the meter) This is horrible!
