Undercarriage Wash?

Hey guys. Quick question for you. Is it safe to spray off the undercarriage of the rolla? I wanna keep the salt in check this winter at the hand car wash. I've heard that certain components can be damaged this way so I usually avoid doing it. What do you guys think?

I always rinse the undercarriage of all my cars and have never had a problem.
I do not believe you can do any harm as in heavy rain the undercarriage gets soaked.
I have seen a few minivans that the rear ac system aluminum tubes get perforated due to salt and the owner did not wash under the car.

Complete myth.

Don't forget to wash the inner lip of the wheel wells. I wash everywhere.
Also Londonguy, a great automatic carwash in London is Shell at Oxford and Hyde Park. It has an undercarriage wash although @ $14.00 bucks it is pricey.

Does the other part of the carwash have brushes that make swirl marks in you paint?

I have five cars. In a bind when it is really cold and I don't want to break out the pressure washer, I will take it to the car wash to get all the bad stuff off the body and get the undercarriage as best as I can.

Usually though about 4 times a year, I put my cars up on jackstands get under there and identify any nasty areas and scrub those by hand, then spray the rest of it with a cleaner called purple something and pressure wash them using the water heater outlet from my house.

Of course that's usually on the weekend and the wife can't wash clothes which causes some domestic issues but that is a different story.

I wash the bottom in Spring when the road salt has had a couple good rains.

Also a few [dry] days before a rust proofing, this way the product is applied to a reasonably clean & dry surface.
