With the way the company is going now, don't expect a better part (because the company is trying to cut costs)...seriously, if the factory jack is not to your liking (which it seems), go invest in something more heavy duty from your auto parts store, or perhaps a Craftsman floor jack .
It's been my experience that most factory jacks are flimsy and unless placed perfectly in the dedicated spot on the car on a perfectly flat surface , tend to try and lean.

The factory jack works perfectly fine if used on a flat surface but it is no substitute for a good floor jack. It's more of a pain to use but it is only meant to help you change a flat on a level surface. Most factory jacks only get used a handful of times during the life of the car.

could someone recommend a good floor jack, the craftsman floor jacks that run from 200-300 dollars are now making their parts in china even though their rep is for usa made products.

I picked up one a Costco a couple years ago that has been excellent for a price that was great compared to others that I looked around at. It is very low and wide, very stable like the ones at America's Tire Company!

My old craftsman jack finally stripped a gear that I could not find anywhere. I like it so much I saved it and intend to either stumble on one at a garage sale or machine one.
Anyway I bought a Rousch low Profile three pump racing jack. I know it isn't made by rousche and I have seen it under other brands. I think they have it at Harbor Freight now for around a hundred. Pretty good jack.
A couple of my cars are lowered and it really helps.

Please don't buy one that is small and just as dangerous as your factory jack.
That looks like a substantial jack. BUT I don't think I care to carry it in my trunk to change a tire in an emergency. I change my own oil (or at least intend to from now on) and have a couple wooden ramps (solid wood, nailed together) which are only about 5", but they're quite safe, as long as you don't drive off the side or over the top. I've been using them for about 30 years. They provide good enough clearance for me to slide under the car on my big piece of cardboard. BUT... an emergency jack should fit in the trunk well. I used to curse the old bumper jacks, but they were all easy to use and you didn't need to read japanese instructions to put them into action. I'm glad someone started this thread, it means I should nag myself into digging into the my trunk and have a little rehearsal jacking the car before I get a flat tire in 15 degrees F with lots of nice cold slush. (which means I can procrastinate till next spring)
The factory supplied jacks are quite scary, conditions would have to almost be perfect. And if you drive even a short distance on a flat the tire can be damaged beyond repair.
There are replacement oem style jacks that seem a little heavier duty... but the bases are still quite small.
I had a 2.5 ton floor jack made by larin corp from auto zone, it had the carry case and it was great but only lasted a couple of years then developed a leak. I ordered a 3 ton from sears and it is huge ! I used to carry the floor jack on long trips, been tempted to build a box for the 3 ton.
a factory ford tire change jack tipped and almost let a car fall on me once, so OMG its not just a toyota problem. quick, everyone write their senator about how dangerous these temporary tire change jacks are when used improperly on an unstable surface.
Here a couple pics of mine. It is a low profile 2 ton jack from Costco that I paid $99 for, what a great deal it was. I wish that I had picked up 2 of them!
Granted, this is for garage use only as I don't carry it in a vehicle!
