A good headunit isn't going to power your system (you will need rca outs and amplifiers), but here is my setup:

You do need a good headunit, he's saying that the headunit alone isn't going to be enough to power a true system of virtually any size.

There are 2 (possibly more) chinese-made navigation systems. Chinese-made doesn't necessarily mean they are of bad quality. There are many users on this forum that love these systems. Read through both threads below. Expect to spend at least ~$200 for a good, brand new, single-din head unit. For about $400, you can get (something like clintj's) in-dash navigation, DVD-player, and many more options while maintaining your car to look stock (IMO, making it look stock will decrease the chance of a thief breaking your windows to steal your shiny new head unit!)

1. No name/brand: 2009 Toyota Corolla Double Din 7" Head Unit!

2. Eonon E1055: Eonon E1055 (In Dash DVD, Bluetooth...)

Clint has the 2nd one. In fact, he started that thread!

Goodluck!

What FlameyFart said is absolutely right! Made-in-China products are of good quality as well as cheap price, they're growing even better, the typical example is Eonon! Eonon is also the sponsor of this forum now, so vinZ, if you would like to know more, you can visit to our board here :

There are audio forums for this sort of thing, but I think the most affordable/quality (24bit-sound processing) can be had with the alpine cda-9886 or cda-9887 headunits. ($200-$300 respectively). Its a big improvement.

Hey Silena! It is actually a JBL amp but it is made by the same people who make Infinity.

Are you still on Facebook? At one point you were in my friends but I can't seem to find you anymore.

There are many makes and models, but if you want something through out there.

Rockford Fosgate makes good amps and underrate their amps (so if they state 500watts RMS expect that or more)
Rockford Fosgate 500watt Amp Link
Rockford Fosgate 1000watt Amp Link

A good subwoofer for everyday use could be an alpine type R
12" Link (500watt sub)

Now recommending a mid-range can be extremely difficult and would rather not be a part of that.

Hmm i did some research on the ideas you recommended and i like them.

So far what I'm considering of getting:

Alpine Headunit - $200
http://signature.crutchfield.com/s_5...Alpine&tp=5684

Alpine Type R Sub - $130
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...+-TYPE+R-.html

Rockford Fosgate 1000watt Amp - $400
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...+Edition-.html

As for the speakers, I'm still looking around would love some recommendations.

And would you suggest to build my own subwoofer box or are there any decent ones out there for a good price?

Total so far without speakers - $730
