So I have decided to take a page from the Vdub community and source a set of 96 17" Corvette Wheels.
They are 17x8.5 in the front and 17x9.5 in the back. They are also 5x120, so I will need to find some quality adapters. I think its going to be a tough fit, but I think it can work if I find a cheap enough set.

I always say do what you like, but you asked for thoughts so here are mine!
EEEK!
Corvettes have a wider wheel/tire in the rear because of the neat idea of RWD. I think it will look ridiculous on a FWD Corolla though.
Yeah, the 9.5 in the back is a bit of a concern. One option though is to buy 2 more 8.5s and run them in the back.
Its not practical, and its not something everyone (or likely 1 in 10 people) will like, but I am tired of seeing so many stock Rollas on the road, I want something different.
This is probablly the best picture to show what I am hoping to pull off. On the Mk5 they look pretty tame and would go well with a MGM Rolla.
It's not a bad look on this car but as I said before, just not a look that I like for the Corolla or my Corolla. If you like it though than go for it, to each their own!

The rotating mass with the adapters is going to be tough on your drivetrain.
Just sayin.
Any more info? I have accepted that the ride quality may get worse, but never thought of the drivetrain. I run about 30k miles per year, so its not going to be a hellaflush garage queen.
Assuming the tires and wheels weigh more than stock and then adding the weight of the adapters, it will take more HP to get them rolling. It will also take more brakes to get them stopped.
I don't know if they weigh more than stock but I figured they would with the adapters.
Thats something that a lot of people don't take into consideration when they buy aftermarket wheels and tires.

I hope you know and understand the risks and downsides to running wheel adapters.
Not the safest option IMO.
Yeah I have read an extensive amount over the past few days. While its not as safe as running the correct pattern; the combination of quality hardware and periodic inspections will mitigate most risk. While I would love to run a wheel of the correct bolt pattern, I can't find anything even close to the style. (which probably means something. )
I am planning to pay about $320 from a reputable company in the VW community for a set of 4 custom made to fit. Like many things on the internet, I can't find a definitive answers to "how safe" they are, so I will use caution and see how it goes. If it doesn't work out, I found a replica set of Borbet type a's I would like to run.
i think you can pull it off nicely if your car has the right stance. i've seen too many people have really nice wheels but ruin the look by having the wrong stance.
