Ignition won't move from "Lock"

Heya,

I recently purchased a 2010 Corolla, and I love it. The only issue I have had in my time with the vehicle (5 days now) is that sometimes the key won't turn in the ignition. It's as if it is a wrong key. The only thing that seems to work is to jiggle the crap out the key while it is in the ignition. Am I doing something wrong? Is this a technicle problem? Any help would be appreciated!

Did your steering wheel lock up?

The steering lock may be under tension depending on the position of the column. If it is, you will have to off-load the tension by turning the steering wheel left or right to allow for free movement of the lock cylinder. If this is not the case, you may have an intermittent problem with the lock cylinder.

like what sienna1 has said, just turn the wheel left and right and it should free up.....it usually happens when you turn the steering wheel after ur ignition is off, it locks the steering wheel and the ignition too

my guess is probably what everyone stated already, your steering column has locked and you gotta move it left/right while turning the key.

I also have this issue with my 2010 corolla. Its not the steering lock. It is something with the actual cylinder lock. I switched to the other key and it doesnt seem to do it as often. I'm not eager to have the dealer monkey around with it. I'm hoping as the key wears it will get better.

It should be under warranty but if you don't have confidence in your dealer, a locksmith should be able to fix your keys in a few minutes for a few bucks.

Maybe take the key to a locksmith and have him brush the key & smooth it out a little. It may have a burr on an edge of the key that catches every once in a while.
