I thought this review was interesting as it discusses many of the things that we have but keeps a lot of the comments in perspective of what the Corolla is.

IMO the exterior design is what made me think of getting a corolla over a civic lol, so they put it int the "minus" just over an opinion heh. I have the AT 1.8 and yea, I wish I had a 5th gear. I get 31.5 mpg average lately that's because I've been in a rush lately :/ but hey, still beats the v6 explorer I used to have by a longshot.
I'd say it's a pretty good review though. But they talked about it as if the corolla was a complete trash car before, which I kinda don't agree w/ lol. At least that's the way I interpreted it.
The exterior is a con!?!?!? Seriously??? I thought it would be a postivie in most peoples views. I agree about the clock though, a little annoying. Handling is decent to zip though traffic, which i would agree on. The telescope steering is a big advantage so it can accommodate most peoples preferences.
Yeah, I thought the review were for the most part very positive. I love the style of the 10th gen especially with the body kit on the "S" & "XRS" as the reviewer mentioned on the "XRS" review. My "S" also now has everything the "XRS" has in the review & more as far as handling upgrades.

And make no mistake; the Corolla XRS won’t be mistaken for a 3-Series. However, at less than half the price of the German luxury car, it isn’t meant to compete.
But when compared to other cars in its category and price range, Like the Nissan Sentra 2.0SL, or Hyundai Elantra, it fares quite well, thank you.
The Sentra and Elantra aren't the ones at the top of the segment. More like the Civic and Mazda3 (perhaps)...not to mention the just released '12 Ford Focus...that car is definitely pushing the envelope.

But at higher price point.

Depends, if you choose the higher level models with performance...the Civic and Mazda3 are the competitors to the Corolla, and they are the better cars in this segment compared to the Sentra and Elantra. Again, this segment is HIGHLY COMPETITIVE.
The review lost all credibility for me when he said a drawback of the center console design was the radio controls were positioned too high and that he couldn't adjust the radio while resting his hand on the shifter. That is a lame parameter for evaluation.

i am glad someone finally reviewed the XRS for what it is, rather than what it is not. i've found most reviewers dont even bother with the XRS because it doesnt have the "power", but again, it's not priced like the SI, GTI or speed3, SE-R etc etc. i didnt read the other review, but i am happy with whatever was said about the XRS.
however i dont know about that extending center console armrest, is that an US only option ? that is something i would love to have if available in canada.

It's available with the leather seat option here for both S and XRS models, and standard on all XLEs.
But, I bought this car because of Toyota's reputation.
It was very inexpensive to buy and it gets good gas mileage.
I have cars that go fast. They don't get very good gas mileage.
+1

He said it was a base model... EPS is not on the base and LE models is it ??
It's standard on all models.
I just liked the fact that they were mainly positive and looked at the Corolla for what it is & not for what it isn't. Every reviewer will have things that people agree & disagree with but I get tired of the magazine reviews that are not happy unless every car goes 0-60 in 5 seconds or less. In fact, a lot of things that people have been complaining about he thought were pretty good, the interior, handling, stereo, steering feel, etc.
