Looking for help with electrical project - ignition

Hey everyone. I'm looking to do start a project soon on my 2010 Corolla CE - no power windows/locks, no alarm system, etc. 5 Speed.

My goal, ultimately, is this: The car can be started with the key as normal. Clutch in, turn key, car starts. In addition to this, I would like to add an RFID reader to start the car when an approved RFID tag is read. I am not looking to bypass the clutch safety switch - the clutch pedal will still have to be engaged in order to start the car.

I don't need help with the RFID part - that's easy. The problem is hooking it up to the ignition to emulate a key being turned.

The RFID reader works like such: when activated by an RFID tag, it sends out a 12v signal. This will control a 12v relay which will be hooked up to the ignition.

Basically, it would be the same as a pushbutton start, except for the fact that it's not a button per say.

Is this possible with this car?

Thanks for any help!

I would assume it should be pretty easy

the 12v from the RFID can enable a relay to allow the normal start switch engine start signal to pass (if RFID on) or not (RFID off)

I mean is it more complicated then that? or are you talking about a complete bypass when the RFID is enabled?

You may want to speak to an alarm installer about this. You may require a bypass module etc

Wondering if you could somehow employ a remote start module, which emulates the ignition switch, and is smart enough to know when the engine is running (i.e. cranked long enough), usually via. tack wire hooked to the remote start unit.

I thought of that. Hacking a keyfob and soldering into it is very easy, no problem there. I just think there must be an easier way of doing it without installing a remote start.

My LE with "smart key" works like that.
If key is left in car, doors will not lock

Well, I have an implant in my hand, so it would be like 'Hold implant infront of reader until engine is turned over, remove hand from reader.'

Once the tag is away from the reader (no longer being read) the relay shuts off.

I guess my question would be this: could it be as easy as tapping into the wires going to the ignition and wiring them up to a relay? Or is it more complicated than that?

Do our keys for a Corolla, a base model, have a chip in them?

a push button start would be just for looks. the key would still need to be turned to "ON" for the car to actually start up.
