random car alarm

Hey everybody. Any input would be great on this. So I was sitting on the couch and and my car alarm started going off in the driveway. I could see the car clear as day, nobody at all near it. My keys were in my coat in the closet (the only set in the house.) No idea what would have caused it to go off, it stopped on its own after about 3 minutes (while I was scrambling to find the keys under the couch cushion, I figured I was sleeping on them.) Anyway, let me know what you guys think.

I've seen it happen with almost every alarm I've ever had. I wouldn't worry about it unless it started to happen a lot.

the only time that I've seen this happen was on my sisters 2002 corolla Le and it would just go off all the time and the car would disarm itself at any time of the day and unlock. even if you were driving, we would here the power door locks unlocking over again and again. so i dont think you have anything to worry about. too bad my sis totaled it

Cars with modified mufflers can set them off.

That's what my '98 Camry did all of the time. It was equipped with the shock sensor & the sensitvity was set too high. It was located under the dash down by the pedals. I don't know about the new Corollas having that, but maybe take a look for kicks 'n giggles and see if you have a adjustable shock sensor down there.

thats where my alarm is exactly. right under where our OBD2 plug is. my alarm is set to low sensitivity due to having hids, people would actually need to break into my car or hit it fairly hard for it to alarm. but my fathers highlander sounds just like what you are experiencing. set fairly high sensitivity which wind, cars passing by w/ either loud mufflers or subs, or something falling on the car (like bird poop). i wouldnt worry much unless you have hids and they get set off
