ruined my jbl receiver, looking to get an aftermarket hu

So I ruined my jbl 6 disc changer receiver by changing the leds on it. None of the buttons work besides power, volume, eject, and tuner (even the steering wheel controls dont work). I cant just order a new circuit board but I would have to send it out for repair $150-250.

So I wanted to find a nice cheap aftermarket hu that I can connect to my jbl 8 speaker package. I would like one that is able to use the steering wheel controls. Anyone know what i could purchase and how to install it? i would need a dash kit for it.

Also i have xm receiver in my car and I don't use it, could i resell this somehow? And is it possible to to somehow use the current 6 disc changer and use it as a trunk 6 disc changer or something like that.

I have really no clue about car radio stuff so any info would help.

No such animal; good cheap and retains the steering wheel controls. It would be cheaper to repair what you have.

Their are a few HU's that have steering wheel integration but you are looking 250-300 range. Plus I do believe you have a amp in your current configuration and that means you need pre-outs something else cheap does not buy. Save the money and get your stereo fixed. Plus if your car is under warranty this should not cost you a cent.

Keep an eye on eBay, I've seen the JBL head-unit for sale but unfortunately not at this moment.

It will cost him as he broke it by tampering with it.

a $200 dlls headunit should do everything you need but, It should be hard (could be wrong) to integrate the JBL sound system with an aftermarket Headunit.

Pioneer has head units with an adapter so you can use the controls. ($60 bucks)

I will give you a link to look for yourself and not recommend any; and here is my reasoning: If you are looking for a POS to last you a month by all means please waste your money. Head Units are the only stereo equipment piece that I buy a} new and b} at full price with a warranty. This is because the failure rate for these are quite high and also HU's drives the sound quality for the whole system. So go ahead and buy that Jensen but when it sounds like total arse don't come back asking why.

I would just have it fixed if I were you. All the aftermarket units that are decent will cost more & none will let you use your BT steering wheel controls. The SAT tuner is also built in to the JBL units, I asked as I have a JBL too.

Pull it, send it out and get it fixed.

Use your ipod until it comes back.

Watch out for firetrucks and cops though when you have earphones in.

Please tell us how you messed it up so we don't do the same. Thanks
