transmision shifts

i have noticed in cold weather that if the car has not been warmed up that when i go up the road that the transmision will stay about 3000 on the tach at 55 mph before it finally drops into the overdrive rpm range.usually about a half a mile.is his normal?when the car is warmed up shifts take place normal.it is a 2009 corolla s with the automatic.i always drive in the D position unless i am in tow and drop it in position 3.

Yes it is normal. It won't shift until it's warmed up enough. Happens to me everyday. On the way home I go from a parking lot to a 80k/h and it revs high for about a mile and then settles down because it's warmed enough now.

Don't think it is wise to rev up before it is warmed up.

It is normal on an auto....the computer doesn't want to shift to higher gear for quicker warm up.

Yea, just drive your car lightly until it's warm and your shifting pattern should be fine. - However my car wants to shift at 3k rpm now due to my exhaust and trd air filter.

Hesitant shifting when cold

This may be 'normal' for this model, but it is very annoying. Other cars I've owned haven't had this. How much gas could it be saving by roaring down the road stuck in too low a gear? I think they need to rethink this, along with a lot of other things that apparently are 'normal' about the 10th generation Corolla.

My 95 Previa S/C does this too. It's the only automatic that I own though! I did check with my folks & both of their Toyota auto's do it too.
