Will probably be going for a new 2010 Corolla next week with son.
One of the real joys in life is dealing with salesmen for a new car !
Anyway, there have been a few posts, and in the paper, regarding Toyota rebates and incentives in effect now, and that there are expected to be more (and greater ?) in the near future.
Anyone have any information on what is in effect now, that you
can ask for ?
What's coming, and when ?
What is a realistic price to aim for these days with Toyota: their published Dealer Invoice Price (as there are probably some dealer incentives), or... ?
My advice, is to look at the toyota website and configure the car to your desired specs using their "Build Your Toyota" feature. Find out what the MSRP of that car is, and then when you go to the dealer have that number in the back of your head as a base line idea. The Dealer should be able to move the price up or down $1000-2000 easily.
If your son is a recent graduate, Toyota (Canada at least) offers an additional $500 off.
Otherwise, shop around with the Dealer's main competitors and bring their financing offers to the table saying "Well Mazda down the road is offering 0% financing" or "Ford up the street said they will throw in an extended warranty on the purchase of this car"...
stuff like that should help bring your price down.
Remember not to show the salesman that Toyota is your only choice.....bring out other cars during the conversation. I got my 09 S with extra $1500 down and life time oil change as discount.
Be very specific about what you want. When shopping for my corolla, I test drove a 2010 S. that was barcelona red, and loved it. We went back into the showroom and another salesman walked up saying "Did you just let her drive the red one? It's now sold".. I was pretty upset, but they took $750 off the price of the car I DID buy because it was the last one available, and silver Now I love the color anyway Haha.

The same happened to me. I wanted blue yet ended up with silver. It's still better than that green and beige color.
To the original poster
After configuring the car or looking at the window sticker you want look at the invoice price. Any price in the vicinity of that invoice after all rebates is a 'good' price. I used to call 5 dealers in my area and the salespeople would email me their lowest price. I just emailed the lowest to others and they went lower than that. Keep playing this game until they offer below invoice .

Any suggestions most appreciated.

The last 2 Toyota's that I bought I went online to the Toyota website, configured my car & I dealt with the internet manager. I did it to several Toyota dealers & than I would say that xyz dealer will do it for this & it went back & forth until I got my price. It was easier & I got a better price than I feel I would have from dealing with a salesperson for hours on end.
Do your homework & know dealer cost on the car & what you want on it.

I live in NJ and just got my Corolla S Tuesday night. I used edmunds to price out my Corolla and it worked extremely well. I was well prepared and I knew the price range I wanted to be in. I walked out of a few dealerships when I didn't get what I wanted. Your first step is to "build" the car you want and call around to see if they have it. I wanted the gray color but they only had black in my area. I didn't want to wait for a car so I bought that. No regrets. Wasn't sure if I should post my price...
I have a 2010 Corolla S - Black (Bought in NJ)
-Manual
-All Weather package (CK)
-Power Tilt and Slide Moonroof (SR)
-Extra value Package #3 (QC)
-Carpet Floor Mats (CF)
-0% Financing
-3 Years Free Maintenance (Mostly Oil Changes)
-3 Years Roadside Assistance

Exactly the way to go. Know what you want, and the price is easier to negotiate.
I tried to call around and do it that way, but some would promise to beat it and give me "their price," and when I got there, they refused to honor what they said on the phone. Finally found a dealership that worked with me and was reliable.
Right as the fiasco started I got a quote of $17,300 on a nice S (no roof) and the current 2.9%/60mo or cash (cash back is less than the lower interest rate, even at $1250)
The salesman called the other day and not much has changed (actually nothing has)
I don't currently own a Toyota & I'm not trading in anything, so the loyalty bonus is out. My previous car was a 00 Corolla and I have owned 4 Corollas in total... too bad that does not count.
Something is supposed to happen in March may wait and see what it amounts to.
I can get a Civic LX at a pretty good price (around $17.5k) and 1.9%/60mo until 3-31
I have never owned a new Corolla & would like to. I love the looks of the 10th gen S.
We will see soon about the "incentives" I can wait a little longer I guess.
The other problem I have is our Toyota dealer sucks, I would need to go out of town to deal on one 30-45 miles away.
I have an 09 S, bought it in Richmond, VA, automatic, didn't go with the sunroof because of past issues with Sunroofs. Anyways, sticker was 19,994, I left paying 16,700 with taxes, tags, blah, blah blah, and I didnt put a dime down. My dealer was even offering a killer deal on the extended warranty so I opted out for that too, 2.9% financing for 60 months. I bought it May 31st, 2008. My salesman told me that the last day of the month is the best to go buy, because either dealers are trying to make quota, or they want to sell above quota so they can get more on the new truckload.
