So Long XRS... Hello Tundra!!! Oh Thank God! A Truck Again!!!

Well its happened... finally!!! I have dumped the xrs. I consider the purchase of that car to be the biggest automotive blunder of my lifetime thus far! What a waste of cash, what a let down in performance once the novelty wears off. The lackluster xrs slowly began to annoy me the longer I drove it, the car feels numb...

But I digress! I'm a truck guy... as my handle "trucknut" implies. I bought this car in the hay-day of spiking gas prices in 2008. I have always owned trucks, my last being a 96 tacoma 4wd which toyota bought back resulting in the purchase of the xrs. It seemed like the right thing to do... think of all the money I could save at the pump i thought.... and it looks like a sporty little car i told myself! And i must admit the first few fill ups where nice, 1/2 the cost of the taco, plus the car felt peppy... although I swear my V6 tacoma could probably take it!!

Overtime however I grew to hate the car, it was the reason i had no truck after all!!! I even bought an old Jeep and rebuilt it... that would satisfy me i thought... soon after the rebuild the xrs didnt move, I drove the Jeep everyday getting a wonderful 13mpg! It was then I realized... For those of us guys out there who like a commanding view, the ability to go off the beaten path at a moments notice, to haul practically anything, the go to guy for all your friends when they need something moved, the price is high. We have no choice but to pay dearly at the pumps to drive what we love!

Traded in the xrs on a first gen 01 Tundra TRD V8 late last week making a few thousand in the process due to the xrs having a higher book value. Life is good now, even with the near $100 fill ups. All you guys and gals out there considering trading in your precious pick up on a car I hope you see this post before you go down that path... you will hate yourself every time you turn the key of that miserable little econobox i swear it!! And for you "fast and furious" types on this forum trying to rice up your car to make it faster, go test drive a V8 truck and save yourself the trouble!!

Cheers

Congrats...

Beauty of a truck.

I have considered the odd time trading in for something else, but decided my XRS will do just fine for now. Besides when our 1997 Tercel dies I'm getting a RWD Sport Coupe and passing my XRS off to the wife to be her commuter car.

I always loved trucks but I couldn't afford a new truck and since Im in high school. Im dead poor and cant pay for gas therefore I bought the corolla. Every time I climb behind the wheel of a truck/suv, I feel so much better and that is why Im buying a tacoma 4x4 when I go to college and my mom or dad will drive the corolla. econoboxes are for people who dont really care about performance, they cant afford to drive a truck, they dont need to haul anything. Not all people "rice" their cars. I've seen tons of trucks that have been riced out too!! Plenty in Housotn, you cant go anywhere without seeing a truck with chrome everywhere, loud useless exhuasts, neon under the truck, big rims, jacked up suspension that serves no purpose. The only truck I liked to drive so far is my moms 4runner. Dads chevy truck is......a POS. my dads truck makes my corolla feel like it has a v6 or something.

The 2000-06 Tundras has its share of issues (ball joints, brakes), but nothing like the new one. Enjoy your new ride.

first off....congrats on ur new vehicle, glad u bought something that makes u happy cause at the end of the day that's all that matters.

come to alberta, u'll see uselessly jacked up trucks with blinding HID's and balls hanging from the exhausts..

i personally dont have a taste for trucks, as i have no purpose for them .. yet....however i do enjoy driving my gf's xtrail, specially during winter.

lastly, i wud like to point out that its not about "ricing" out our corolla's to make it go faster, its not always about speed, its about personal opinions and sharing a common interest, which is why we are here in the first place.

I know that its not about ricing the rolla. I personally dont really care how fast the cars go as long as it gets me from point A to point B. And I agree with the fact that we come here to talk b/c we have something in common, but still like our cars for our own reasons. I should show you some pics of some cars meets in houston. bazzle91 knows about the stupid useless cars that have bike racks on them, fart can exhaust, 42"+ flat screens in the back, neon signs in the truck, etc.

I think bazzle has more and this next one.......well I just thought it was funny

Glad you found something that better suits your manly personality.

Thx, rwd coupe sounds awesome, as long as its not a bloody mustang!!!

My fav gen of the tundras to... the 04-06 lost the full chrome bumpers and the body was stretched vertically by 3 inches... the 07's and up look like overweight bloated tacomas, why oh why do auto makers feel the need to make everything bigger with each passing generation??

the items you have listed are regular wear and tear items that need to be replaced from time to time, cheap & easy... i do my own work, from a ball joint to an engine rebuild, not to concerned

it is nice to drive something more my style again, still have a stupid grin on my face...

if the owner is off roading with the truck jacking it up is actually quite useful, i do not intend to do serious off roading with the tundra, although it will be off road... at best maybe a mild lift, nothing crazy.

...and balls from exhausts??? really! ugh....

Glad to hear that you found something that you enjoy. However I don't think anyone here has personally tried to make their Corolla a race machine per se (lol fast and furious allusion [other than andyxrs, but that 300+hp is pretty legit]). We all just want to squeeze a little more power out of this little compact car and personalize it to our own taste more or less.

I live in Houston and there are a bunch of siick sick trucks as well as some ugly as ffff ones that have 55w 12k HID's and just looks beaten down and whatnot. I personally am not a truck guy, although I think they look super badass when done right. In TX there's a lot of nutsacks hanging from the trucks too lol.

I think mustangs are actually the best of the big 3, just an opinion. Me being a 18 year old high schooler about to enroll in college, a econobox is what I need to feel the cushion in my back right pocket.

I can't wait until I'm able to buy myself a car and get me a g35 coupe or a wrx sti or even just a regular wrx, or hell, even a IS250 rwd manual would do.

But, good luck down the road w/ your truck man. I like that model of the tundra too, it looks like it has the least weight w/ a v8 to haul some.

yeah I've seen those nutsacks on the tow hitch and the first time I saw it..........I was like WTF???!!! why does he have balls on his truck??? the only thing wrong with the normal mustangs is that they have that live rear axle or whatnot and either the roush or saleen has the.............idk but I dont think that a live rear axle is good for a sports car but the new one isnt bad and I like the rear turn signal how it flows through the three slots.

From my personal working in a dealer, there was an SSC on the balljoints a few years ago, so maybe you are entitled to some free work
