I am annoyed how it comes up every 5000 miles, it's not on the same page as me because I change my Camry's oil anywhere between 4-6k
I'll always forget too... "why is this light coming up I just changed it 1k miles ago" haha
I'm with you on that one. I typically change my oil at the 4,000-4,500 mark, so now at 49,000 its all off. I *believe* you can reset the counter even without the light coming on. About 1.5 months from now I should be able to verify it.

There is this book called the Owner's Manual. If I have a ~$20,000 investment in something I usually read the owners manual.

Yes, you can reset the maintenance light without the light actually coming on. I change my oil every 4,000 miles and don't see it except for the lights check on startup!
Ahem... I read the owner's manual. Searching for info on the Internet is faster than doing a page by page search of the manual, if what you want to know isn't indexed the way that you're thinking about it. And sometimes the folks who write these procedures up don't lay the info out in a manner that is easy to understand.

As a side question, I wonder why we don't have the maintenance lights? Is it because Canadians in general are more aware of the maintenance intervals? Do the UK cars have the maintenance light? We all have this idea that Europeans in general are more one with thier automobiles.

that's absurd... its just a matter of preference for the company to program the cars with or without the maint. req'd light
