Back 3 years ago, I owned a 2001 Toyota Echo. As many of you know its a tall looking car. When I say tall, its got lots of head room. Two days ago, I was at my brothers friends shop. He basically buys wrecked cars at auctions fixes them and sells them. Well he knows I drive a 09 Corolla, so he offered me some alloy wheels from a xrs for $200 I went to take a look at it, and maybe get a bumper too.
The car that he bought was involved in a collision, where it was hit from a side, and somehow end up on its roof, we figured it flipped. Anyways the roof was crumbled down to the seats, I mean like crushed. It has me a bit concerned, since I like to sit up when I drive, I hate leaning back. And the head room is no more than a foot. Very minimal head room, any insight on this?
Ohh my reason of concern is that, I cant see how anyone would survive that crash, being that the roof caved in on their head.

IIHS ratings for the 10th gen are lowest in class. IIHS gave lot of s**t to Toyota for the abysmal roof ratings. IIHS pretty much advised that "duck or die".
I don't plan on an flipping! I have no problems at all with the headroom & I'm 6'2" tall. Even when I have a hat on I have plenty of room & I also have the sun roof which has a little less headroom.

Damn, love your car for what it is. It is an economic car. lower roof = lower frontal area --> less drag.
You shopped for an economic car and you have it. Thats all.
Being economic is not a factor I am concerned about. I am 6'2" as well as others stated above. There is room for your head, just not enough to save your life in case your car goes upside down. I don't mean my head is touching the ceiling, its just that its a bit scary when I saw that XRS. The roof crumbled all the way to the seats, a little above the steering wheel. Who ever was in there, must of died or sustained major injuries.
For those who mentioned not flipping, well you may not live in a dense populated city, there are nothing but intersections here. You never know when someone will run a red light and T-bone you. My grandmother before she got her Matrix, she had a Honda fit, some guy in a Chevy ran a red light as she was driving across the intersection, she got hit in the rear right side and her car was on its roof, and luckily the roof did not crumble whats so ever.
do you know if the vehicle rolled several times? It afflicts more damage the more it rolls, very well could the car have rolled ten times and thats the way it looks

I've never been a "what if" type of person. Any thing can happen at any time in life so I don't worry about it at all. Cars today are so much safer than my first car, a 1969 Corolla! I got hit by a drunk driver in a Ford Bronco & I walked away unhurt. If it was my turn to go than so be it! I don't worry about things I can't control.

dang.... everyone, please give the man a break!! This is a relevant safety concern. Whether you think so or not, at least try to ease his mind or present something that is useful rather than messages like "STOP WHINING"
