2009 corolla 12 V power outlet quit

Need some help here. The 12 V power outlet on my 2009 Corolla has quit working. Checked the fuse and it is not blown still no adapter works when plugged into the socket. The car just turned over 36,000 so it's now out of warranty (good thing the water pump failed at 32,000). The owners manual only shows fuses in the engine compartment is a separate fuse block for the dash that could be blown or perhaps a disconnected socket or wiring problem. Anyone know how to access the back of the 12 V power socket? BTW my dealer has informed me that since my cars VIN begins with J it is not affected by the gas pedal recall. Haven't seen this anywhere so thought I'd share it.

The same thing happened in my car and whatever the cause was melted the wires off and made a bad connection. Look at one of the stereo installation guides that someone has wrote up and that will get you a good start on taking your dash apart. Its very easy so no worried just be careful pulling on the plastic.

Regular stuff like gps or car cell phone charger. I think it was just a faulty plug 12,000 miles later and this one is still fine.

Some designs & styles of 12 volt plugs are prone to short the sockets easily and open the fuse.

Problem solved

Thanks for the info guys it turns out there are two fuse boxes on my 2009 Corolla and only the one in the engine compartment is mentioned in the owners manual. There is another one under the dash between the steering column and the change box. Found a 15 amp fuse opened and my cell phone plug was broke the worthless plastic inside the side blade broke and it was just touching the center probe. Once I find the tiny little fuse I should be working fine. Odd that Toyota doesn't want owners replacing these little fuses.

Those are called Micro Blade Fuses and you can go to your local electronics store and get Mini blade fuses as replacements. they stick out alittle but it shouldnt matter. i have replaced two of mine and they are still working fine.

If you look close you will find spare fuses in the boxes already.

Fuses

Actually the local Autozone had them in stock put one in and we are up and running again. Nice to be able to keep the phone charged again.

I've seen in bandied about on these forums that SOME the Japanese manufactures (VIN starts with J) DID get the CTS gas pedal. Who's right? It would be REALLY nice if someone could tell us how to differentiate them ALL ON OUR OWN!
