Coolant Smell

after some driving and i park, i can smell coolant from the fron grill. i dont see anything anywhere but a distinct smell of coolant being evaporated by something hot, or leaking, etc.

anyone else have this issue?

Did you check the weep hole on your waterpump. Toyota makes a notoriously bad water pump on these newer cars.

confirmed, i have a coolant leak !! i did some brief snooping with a flashlight and found this. the camera was sideways when i took the pic, but i found this pile of lava-rock looking crud. it is located against the engine block, just below the head gasket, and just above to the left of where the radiator hose connects to the center of the block....... its hard to tell if its a head gasket leak or coming from some place else...... it might even be a pinhole in the block !!

my 2006 Lexus battery died today, this coolant leak, and i think i found a faulty spot weld on a steering column bracket on this XRS.... Toyota quality is declining ??

i dont have camera right now, but open the hood, look into the middle of the engine block and you should see a radiator hose connecting to a plastic piece that bolts to the block. this pink crud was located just to the left and slightly higher than this radiator hose (left by about ~6", higher by about ~1").

i bring the car in later this afternoon on my way home from work...

If everyone would put their car model in their signature area than it would help everyone with questions & advice.
