Backup Camera

Hey! I want to buy a backup camera to be ready for my Eonon unit . Has anyone installed a good one? There are some cheapos out there on ebay but wanted to ask around before I purchased one. I saw two, one is a license plate one and one is:

Any help or guidance would be appreciated. If not, my plan is to buy the cheap one first and try it. I think it will be easier to replace later as I will use a main connecting cable.

I took a look at the AudioVox RVMPKG4. This is a complete system with camera and screen in the rear view mirror. I was not able to figure out a place to mount the camera so that it didn't look goofy. I ended up returning it.

Here's how it looks on a Land Cruiser

The AudioVox RVMPKG4 looks cool! It looks too big for our corolla. I am going to try one of the cheapo ones first. If it works out, I will post up pics!

I read somewhere that the backup camera does not work that well at night even with reversing lights on.

What do you have installed? That's bright!
That should work very well with a backup camera.

I have this camera installed http://cgi.ebay.ca/COROLLA-TOYOTA-Ca...item2eab5fab7a and have no problems with night vision using the factory lamps. It replaces one of the license plate lamps but requires a little bit of trimming of the plastic which surrounds the original lamp lens. See my photo gallery of images.

That looks great.
Can you post a review and some pictures of your complete installation.
Thanks.

Just a quick review of the camera installation and images (photos in my Photo Gallery). Requires removal of the trunk lid liner and exterior trim above license plate to access license plate lamp. Remove left lamp assembly to allow installation of camera (exterior trim requires some slight trimming where the OEM lens resides for the camera to be installed). My camera didn't come with a gasket (some eBay sellers include it) so I made one out of some closed-cell foam. The camera has a built-in LED lamp which replaces the removed lamp assembly (LED lamp doesn't match the OEM lamp). I replaced the adjacent license plate bulb with a LED equivalent lamp (the replacement isn't a bright as the built-in camera's LED but I've ordered two other different higher output LEDs and will see if they're a better match). You'll need to connect the camera's LED power leads to the wiring of the original lamp and the camera's power to one of the reverse lamps (only powers the camera when reverse is selected). The supplied video cable required an extension cable because it only reach as far as the glove-box (routed it down the right trunk hinge and secured it to the factory harness that runs along the right door sill area). I've compared the images to a factory installed camera and the differences are quite small. I can live with the slight difference for the $40 including shipping I paid compared to the more expensive units. The installation also looks factory and is less obvious compared to the other universal cameras. The night vision is excellent considering they're no additional lights or infrared lamps other than the factory reverse lights. Now, only time will tell how the unit stands up.
