Thumbs up Weapon R SRI - Xrs

no... weapon-r doesnt make it for the corolla xrs, but does for the 08-09 scion xB. i was looking at it and saw that the 08-09 models have the same engine bay layout as our xrs so as a trial i gave it a shot.

Yes, it fits perfectly and the install was straight forward. design and quality of the intake tubing and filter is just as good as injen or K&N, it comes with the ram air kit but not with a heat shield. (i will make an attempt at a custom heat shield later). i have to keep an eye on the weapon-r's filter since stone11 has said his filter was falling apart after few days or driving, so i'll see wat happens with mine, visual inspection did not indicate any flaws on it.

so comparing it to the injen CAI that i had on my car this is what i thought. throttle response is immideate, its not as loud as the CAI(however on stone11's S it is really LOUD from 3K and above), infact under light acceleration u cant even tell its there, the CAI has more growl to it under WOT, its a different kind of sound, the CAI does sound more impressive, but who buys intakes for sounds . the Weapon-r pulls strong through almost the entire rev band, the CAI pulls hard from 3K upwards all the way to redline at WOT. this is an interesting thing i noticed, on my 5spd there was a torque loss till 2K but on btk's auto, it was not the same (no torque loss). i just installed it tonite and havent driven much, also the temps are around 0 C rite now, so almost no heat soak and i dont know how it will behave on a hot summer day with 30 C temps.

next i inspected the injen CAI filter to see wat happend to it since i installed it over the last two months or so. the hydroshield was dirty, not too dirty but dirty, however if i wipe it with a cloth it cleans up. the filter itself is as good as new, i dont notice any water spots or anything on it. I was able to remove the CAI without taking the bumper off and thus i now know how to install it without taking the bumper off and its quite easy.

so which one wud i recommend ? its all down to ur personal preference. u'll just have to try it and see what works best for u. the only one i dont know about is the K&N typhoon, which is priced the highest amongst the three, the only thing it has more is a heat shield. weapon-r and injen CAI comes with dry filters, K&N comes with pre-oiled. i will be keeping the weapon-r, its a good product and works better for me personally. main reason for this trial was to see if stuff from xB fits on the xrs.

which brings me to the next most important point. I think everything from the 2008-09 scion xB will fit on the 2009-10 corolla Xrs, so now all ur xrs owners have more options (trd CAI, takeda CAI/SRI) including a bolt on turbo kit, but who knows if that will work or not.

NICE!! Sounds like the WR is better than the CAI.
Was the box easy to take out?

Looks nice under the hood. Keep me posted on how the filter holds up. If it stays strong then it might be an option for me. I want the K&N Typhoon, however it is sooo expensive for a SRI.

Either way, can you do a sound clip?

Looks great! I have the K&N and I love that sweet spot just above 3000rpm. Another bonus of the K&N is that it has a bar that holds the pipe in place and attaches to the manifold so the pipe isn't just dangling.

there is a bracket that holds the pipe in place for the weapon r too, its attached to one of the holes on the stock intake base. u can kinda see it in the third picture, its sturdy enough and it does help securing the intake better.

Oh yeah I see it now.. That actually might be a more stable bracket compared to the K&N because the K&N is bolted to the side where the Weapon R is bolted to the bottom. Either way look great and from the sounds of what you explain it's pretty much the same thing as the K&N.

hmm.. did you remove the battery to pull the CAI out? I never thought about removing CAI without bumper... but the battery sounds the most logical?

no u dont need to touch the battery to remove it. i removed the pipe attached to the throttle body first by looseing all clamps, then removed the rubber pipe tubing connecting the top and lower pipes, so all that was left was the lower pipe that was secured with the vibra mount and bracket with the filter attached. next u remove the lower splash shield(the one u remove to change the fogs) and the filter and pipe is rite there. loosen the vibra mount, unhook the piping bracket and there is enough room to slip that part out (with the filter still attached) through the bottom. (does help to raise the car a bit). so no need to bother with the bumper and battery.

that does seem faster, i'd have to raise my car to have access to the splash shield though...

I returned my SRI a while ago because I'm a cheap guy... the intake only provided great sound... but now I really miss it and I'm considering going CAI
