AFAIK DRL are the center-most lamps, or the high beams.

SYLVANIA SILVERSTAR ULTRA has a very short life span. Actual measured lumen output is less than a standard OEM bulb. Just because its 'whiter' doesn't mean its brighter. Overpriced junk IMO.

GO HIR bulbs for max actual performance & best bang for the buck ( http://store.candlepower.com/hirlighting.html ).

i think he meand HID instead of HIR, and yes, HID's are much muhc better, the difference is like night and day. I will never go back to halogens after using my HIDs

no he did not mean HID's
he meant HIR's

9012/9011 HIR Headlight Bulb Upgrade

theyre they best bulbs for the corolla headight housing... which arent meant for HID's
they cost about the same as the Silverstars but have better light output and last a lot longer.

one way to makes bulbs last is to avoid toughing the bulb with your greasy fingers...so i've heard

edit: just wanted to thank SuperchargedMR2 for his reviews and pictures on the HIR bulbs

I love my HIR bulbs! They are nice & bright & maximize the ability of the halogen housing that it's capable of handling.

Absolutely do not touch the bulb at all, silverstar or any brand bulb.
Oils ,etc from human hands will contaminate the bulb.
If touched the bulb may last a month or so before it goes out.

Didn't you have to Modify the Bulb though? I thought I remembered your post showing modified HIR bulbs since they only come in 9011 & 9012, and not 9006 and 9005.

I have heard the silverstars don't last long.

I am currently on four years on my Taurus and 3 years on one of the two in the rodeo. The other one was crushed in a wreck.

I am currently using Mtec super white halogen bulb, they are very good in terms of light output, and I just installed the nokya hyper yellow fog, so I got no complaints at all during night driving.

I had silverstars on my previous mazda protege 5, they lasted about 6 months and decided to blow, afterwards I switched to HID.
