Do Corollas come with stock HIDs?

Hey dudes! .. I was skimmin thru all the HID threads on the forum to put this question but then thought a fresh topic might be better..

I was going through the Corolla manual the other day for bulb specifications and noticed something interesting. Under Light Bulbs chart for Low Beams it showed 2 types

- Low beam (halogen bulbs) HB4 Halegon Bulbs
- Low beam (discharge bulbs) D4R discharge Bulbs

A bit of googling showed that D4R bulbs are in fact HIDs..

So my question is.. if the 2009 Corollas do come with D4R discharge bulbs for low beams, does that mean they're factory fitted HID's in reflector housings?? coz I haven't seen any projector headlamps offered in any of the stock models..

Cheers,
Ruks

In Asia/Europe HID's are optional. In North America (where most members here on TN seem to be based), Toyota does not offer HID lighting from the factory.

Jeff

In the countries where HID is optional do they come with projector housings or just the regular halogen housings?

They are HID reflector housings with motorized level control.

There are no factory projector housings for the 10th Gen Corolla.

There are halogen reflectors, halogen projectors and likewise HID reflectors and HID projectors, it really just depends what the housing is designed to use. An HID reflector housing should put out the correct beam pattern and would be superior to an HID retrofit in a halogen projector housing.

Any idea on how to obtain these and what would be required to make it work?

Thanks

There are 2 types of motor control, automatic and manual. The manual control would likely be easier to wire up/make work than the automatic, as the automatic control is tied into the gauge cluster and has it's own ECU. The manual control really just requires the switch and some wiring.

As for acquiring the parts, you'd likely need to contact a LHD European country where the 10th Gen Corolla Sedan is sold with HID's.

I can give you the various part numbers and a wiring diagram for the stuff, but these things cannot be ordered in North America, so you'd still need to source them.
