So I know this is Toyota nation and not flowmaster nation, but it's on a Toyota, anyways... Just recently when I get on the accelerator, especially at high rpms, my exhaust is sounding like a chainsaw cutting through a tree... Now in the past it did and still does this really bad for the first warm up like 3 mins, but eventually it would go away, now it's sticking around, just not as badly, you can't hear it at low rpms or partial throttle, it has the usual low awesome sound of flowmaster, but when your at wot and at like 4.5k and up I'm a lumberjack again, is the muffler dead?(my old broncoII did this when it's muffler broke, I thought it was just the pos, but my autoshop teacher said try a new muffler) should I try a new muffler? Now I don't want to blame my intake but I did just put a weaponR on, it was working fine at first, it was just most the day yesterday, and just now when I started my morning. It's been really cold lately too(snowed the previous night) so maybe just the cold isn't allowing the muffler to fully warm up? Should I wait it out more? Any similar cases or thoughts will be greatly appreciated

Personally i'd go to a parts store and buy the same flowmaster muffler, clean the old one up and take it back
What size tip outlet do you have? My Magnaflow was a bit droning at certain RPM's with a 2 3/4" tip, so I stuck a 2" rolled tip inside the larger tip and it sounds way better. Tips can have a dramatic effect on giving you the right exhaust sound.

What would have changed about that now though? I've had the same exhaust
since June of 09. And it just now changed? That does raise a different point though, did you leave your stock resonator on? And what size piping is on your magna? I have a tip that's bordering 2 3/4" and is about 6"-7" long. Because IMO my exhaust sounds immaculate(well cept for recent events)
but for an update anyways, it was 34 deg. And icy This morning when I was heading for a drive, and I let it idle for a long time(to test the warm up theory, and defrost myself) then went for a drive, it wasn't making the noise as bad, but that was after about 15 mins of idleing and I drove around a bit at low rpms and partial throttle, after I hit the freeway it sounded all good for the most
part, it was a lil higher in pitch then usual, but I definately was not a lumberjack.

Are you sure it's the muffler making the noise, not another part of the exhaust pipng? Maybe the flex part is torn?
I was thinking maybe some of the heat shielding bs came loose, but what flex part are you refering to?

Alright, I kinda figured it out, I guess it just hit a milestone and doesn't warn up as fast as it used to, but on startup it's a really tinny, high pitched kinda chainsaw noise, after some
driving around it deepens up and sounds normal again.. I just can't try to impress anyone till after idleing for 10 mins lol, I'll post a pic of a warm muffler and a cold. You'll hear what I'm talking about.

I have no idea what would have changed, other than just normal burn-in. Flowmaster is a very good quality product, so I doubt seriously it fell apart inside, although you may want to thump the bottom of the muffler with your fist to see if you can hear any loose pieces inside.
My system is completely stock, including resonator, with the exception of the Magnaflow which is 2" in & out. Here's a simple line drawing of what my tip setup looks like. The Magnaflow is 2" inside diamater, so after the 2 3/4" tip was put on, a few days later I installed the 2" outside diameter tip inside the muffler outlet, and it toned it down a lot. The end of the smaller tip is still well inside (3-4" maybe) the larger tip. I'm sure it would be even quieter if I put a longer tip on it, or a bit louder if I shortened it. I may pull the secondary tip out because it wasn't that bad, but I was sort of experimenting on how it would change the sound. When I drive back to KY from TX in a few months I will definitely have it on though, for a quieter highway trip.
The white line is the Magnaflow outlet, the red line is the 2 3/4" tip, and the yellow is the 2" outside diameter tip.

You should make a video and show me how the magna sounds, Im kinda disapointed with the whole I have to warm up muffler, I have a magnaflow on my 4runner and I love it. It's throaty and powerful.

I had a Flowmaster 40 on my 2004 Blazer ZR2 with nice dual tips straight out the back, and it sounded fantastic, I loved it. Sadly though, I don't have a camera with me that will do video, I left it at home.
