Hey so I was wondering if anyone on here has added a sunroof after they got their car. My old car had one, but my corolla doesn't. I'm pretty used to having a sunroof, and not having one is a lot different. Plus living in California, it's a really nice thing to have.
I'm not too serious about getting one, but i'm curious. I wanted to look into it and see if it has been done, how well did it turn out, and roughly how much it would cost to do so.
I wouldn't suggest adding a custom sunroof if the car originally doesn't equipped with one. If it is not done properly, leaking for sure will be a major issue and poor sealing will cause rust in the long run as well.
So either stay with the car as it, or trade another one with a sunroof.
The roof is a very important part of the structural integrity and helps divert energy in a crash around the passenger compartment. A factory sunroof has additional framework to deal with the missing metal.
An aftermarket sunroof simply cuts all metal in the way, and replaces it with the glass unit. It's generally a real abortion and pays no attention to crash safety.
how about toyota themselves doing it? can they still do it? will they do it for the price?
It is gonna cost the owner so much, that the dealer may actually take in your car as a trade and ask you to take one with the sun roof and take the loss on the old car. And I doubt the dealer will actually perform the job at all.
When i was looking to buy my corolla the one on the lot didnt have a sunroof but they told me they can add one for me. But they didnt tell me what price, but i would assume that it would be covered under warranty if the dealer did it.
I'm surprised that you didn't get a Corolla with a sunroof if you like it so much. I'm that way too, I love having the option to open up the entire sunroof, or just have the light coming through or closing the shade if it's hot outside. I would never by a car without the sunroof option because of how flexible it is! That was one of my must have options when I bought my "S", along with the JBL/BT package & a 5-speed with VSC as VSC was not standard in 09.

yeah one of the reasons i got the S model. my wife wanted a cheaper corolla model without the moonroof. i told her i am paying so i am getting what i want.

I was quoted $300 otd at a local hot rod shop (they have EXTREMELY nice cars), but that was to put a sunroof in a tacoma. I'm sure a corolla would be no different.

I wouldn't do it for that price....sounds fishy. That's too cheap for putting a sunroof: cutting a hole, the whole sunroof (frame with glass) and labor cost for only $300....that doesn't sound right to me.
