Post New 10th Gen Corolla purchasing story!

Hi everyone, I’m new here – I’ve been reading the pages for the last few weeks. Just about two weeks about I picked up a 2010 Corolla S, and I’ve been extremely pleased so far with the car.

One of the things I quite enjoy reading on the forum here are stories about people buying their cars. The dealerships they went to, the experience they had with sales staff, their car choices and features, going to different dealers for their car of choice equipped as they want it – things like that.

So, after conducting an unsuccessful search for a similar topic, I thought we could perhaps share our exciting car purchase stories to share with others and feel the collective excitement that goes along with negotiating the price of a car and having it delivered with that new smell and shine.

So – I’ll start mine first.

I’ve always been a loyal Toyota customer even though I’ve never bought new from the dealership. My first car was a 1986 Tercel, followed by a 1990 Tercel, 1988 Corolla Wagon, a 1988 Celica AWD Turbo (All Trac for y’all Americans!), a 1996 Corolla and most recently a 2001 Echo. I’ve been quite happy with the reliability of the Echo, but with a new baby on the way, the size of the Echo concerned me a little.

I turned my mind to the new Corolla since I’ve had such good luck with them in the past. My brother was a tech for Toyota and later Lexus before changing careers, and I’ve always benefited from him performing all the service on my cars. Now that he’s no longer available to do this for me, and I don’t want to do it myself, I wanted a car with unsurpassed reliability, and based on my research, the Corolla fit the bill.

My brother put me in touch with one of his friends at Toyota Canada Inc. (TCI) who was able to find me a corporate demo being driven by one of the head-office staff on a demo basis. He found me a grey fully-loaded S – I didn’t get to choose the colour or features, but I’d take it no problem. I probably would have chosen the silver or white if I had a choice. After waiting for 3 long months for the car to collect the required 7,000km for the demo period to lapse, I went in to the dealership with the price already having been agreed to. I looked at the Corolla S in metallic grey, leather interior, moonroof and Bluetooth and all that goodness and knew I was set!

I ended up getting the car without having to pay PDI or delivery charges, and the total was $23,000 CAD. 48 months with 0% left me a happy camper. I picked up the car a few weeks ago from the dealer, and I’ve been loving it ever since. I take the subway to work and my wife works from home so we haven’t had too much of a chance to drive it which is going to keep the kilometres down, but it extends the novelty period of owning a “new” car!

Anyway, that’s my story – what’s yours?

Welcome!

I bought my car from my uncle who owns a Toyota/Scion dealership in Western, MA. I had a used '07 Corolla I purchased about 2 years ago until some new driver pulled out infront of me and totaled my car. After that considering I was already a happy customer with the Corolla I went to my uncles to find a new ride...

Was looking at a red '09 Corolla S online then I actually went to the dealership and they had a '10 Black Corolla S sitting on the lot. I test drove it and fell in love. I have to admit i was pro Corolla anyway but driving a brand new sportier Corolla made me want to buy it.

I picked black with black sporty interior with sunroof...automatic because my fiance would be pissed and the only stick they had was a blue.

Around $18,000 off the lot with a 1.9% interest rate.

Couldn't be happier and no pedal fix applied yet : )

You must have misunderstood what I said in my original post. The car was not a dealer demo, but instead only driven by a single Toyota Canada employee at corporate. I wouldn't touch a dealer demo - they usually ground those ones at 15,000 km anyway, not 7,000km.

23K for a used S sounds too high to me. I paid a less than 18K out the door for a brand new 09 S

In Canada we pay much more for the same car.
Our dollar is near par to US now too.

to TN!

I've owned Toyotas for 30 years with great luck. Among others I've owned a 69 Corolla, 82 Tercel, 88 Corolla GTS AE92, 87 MR2, 88 Supercharged MR2, 93 Previa AWD, 91 Camry & my current 5 cars as listed in my signature.

My story of my 10th Gen started when it first came out. I loved the 9th Gen but when I saw the 10th Gen I knew I had to have one. Back in the summer of 08 I first started looking but there was not a car equipped like I wanted it in the color I wanted. I was looking for a......
Corolla S in Silver
5 speed manual
Sport Package
Moon roof
JBL Stereo with Bluetooth
Corolla Door Sills
VSC - optional on 09 models & hard to find with 5 speed
Auto dimming rear view mirror
Floor Mats
Cargo Carpet Mat
Cargo Net
VIP alarm

They told me to just order one to get what I wanted so I waited as I had gone back to school & had another year before graduating. Several months later in November 08, Toyota had 0% interest on Corollas which they had never offered before. I started looking again & to my surprise there was one like I wanted in route to an Oregon dealer. I like getting my best price online & letting the dealers fight for my business. They were all trying to get the same car. I finally found out that it had been special ordered by a customer from Capital Toyota in Salem, OR. That customer had something happen with his job & couldn't buy it. I called them up & told them that I would buy it for $19300 with an MSRP of 22K. I knew it was a very skinny deal but I was in no hurry with 4 other cars! They said no & I said okay. An hour later they called me back & said okay. It was arriving later that day. I went drove down from Portland after my classes were over on a Friday afternoon & picked it up, also getting the 0% interest for 36 months. I've owned it for 16 months now & I've been very happy with my purchase. The car has been great with not a single issue. I did get the recall done for the gas pedal for liability reasons although I was not having a problem.
