5000 mile service indicator light

I already changed my oil, any DIY way to turn off the "Main't Req'd" idiot light off? Or is it a dealership required thing? Is there anything more to a 5k service than an oil change?

thx

I'm not sure if this holds true now, but you should be able to disconnect the battery and hold the brake for 5-10 seconds to reset the computer. Worked on my 00, 96 and 89 at least.... hope this helps.

owner's manual ('10) pg 318
Turn the "engine start stop" switch or engine switch OFF with the trip meter A showing.
While pressing the trip meter reset button, turn the "engine start stop" switch or engine switch ON.
Continue to press and hold the button until the trip meter displays 000000.

worked like a charm, thanks!

EDIT: for those who may find this thread in the future... the "Off" setting is the same as the "ACC" setting.

Its easier to disconnect a battery than push a button on the dash?

Picked up the corolla a few months back with 23,000 miles. Drove it for a few thousand miles and the maint required light comes on. No problem...I changed the oil and reset the light. I put approx 20-30k a year on cars for work. When the oil was changed, the tripA was reset to zero. After another 5500 miles, the maint required light has not come on again. It's been about a month. Does anyone know if this light is triggered by time and or mileage? I'm confused and can't figure it out. Changed the oil again last week and still no light. Currently over 32,000 miles.

Anyone have thoughts on this?

I change my oil every 5k miles & the light comes on at about 4800 miles if I remember right on my 09.

How long does it usually take you to get to 4800 miles? I'm thinking if a certain amount of time doesn't pass, the light won't trigger.

Sometimes it takes only a couple of months & other times went more than 8 months. It is dependent on miles I was told, not time for the warning light.

most definitely triggered by mileage not time interval
2010 rolla light blinks for a few seconds on start-up when within 500 miles of change interval. If I remember correctly I think around 200 miles prior to change interval it stays on constant.

@ MagnaGrolla.... just curious why are you changing your own oil....did you not receive the first 5 oil changes free from the dealer coupon booklet?

That's what I thought...but definitely not happening in my case. I will post again when the light decides to come back on and mileage...Etc.

Do you know if this 5000 interval can be changed somehow? I would like to change it back.

When mine did decide to come on, it would only flash a few times when first started. I would not see the light again until next start up. Once I hit the proper mileage, the light came on and stayed on while driving until I changed the oil and reset it. Over 7000 miles later, I haven't seen the light...I blame it on a gremlin

Mines a 5 speed...not sure if that's normal for an automatic. You might want to call the dealer and ask this question.
