3 problems, need advice please

First, my car is brand new 1000 miles on it as of yesterday. Having a few problems with it and I need advice, so that I have a clue in case the service department tries to blow me off. First, there is a light rattle coming from under the hood at high rpm, not sure I would classify it as engine knock or valve slap, but it sounds like a *very* light version of this.

Second, my throttle response is absolute crap at times and other times it is excellent. I never know what I may get when i start the car. The car lags bad and has dead spots through out the rpm range. The throttle was great the day I posted the thread about my drop in K and N filter and how happy I was. I thought this fixed the problem, but it still exists.

Third, when I push in the clutch to shift gears my rpms jump up before they drop, even though i take my foot completely off the gas. Makes it very hard to drive the car smoothly. yes, i know some people can't drive stick. I promise the problem is not on my end, so please do not assume this.

I noticed these things right away after taking delivery of the car, thought ( hoped ) perhaps they would remedy themselves. I have not had the time until now to get the car back to the dealer and have them check it out. They were however, made aware of the problems from day one and seem eager to help me solve the problems, but we all know how car dealerships are.

Please help, don't post " you should not have" or "*I* would not have taken that car" yada yada. The situation of buying this car was a big mess of a story that I do not really want to get into, and by the time I got THIS car ( went through 2 others that had problems , long story ) I just wanted my darn car so I took it expecting them to make good should any problem arise. Furthermore, even though it is your God given right to do so in any forum, (and we all do it from time to time) please attempt to refrain from throwing uneducated guesses at me.

Ok fellas, I really appreciate the Help and advise In advance. Please inform me of any questions you may have. Also important to know, My mechanical skill and knowledge is pretty basic, but I could probably do just about anything with proper instruction or a manual.

Mine used to rev up a little to when i would depress the clutch to shift gears but i noticed it was me. Make sure you completely take your foot of the gas then get on the clutch. I had the same problem man it was me.

Have you raised your concerns with the dealer? Nothing wrong with asking them for their advice?

You could get you ECM chipped and remove those dead spots in the lower gears or move to a CAI and improve the lower power band. As for the first issue I would take it in to the dealership and start diagnosing that issue.

The RPM usually jump up when the clutch is depress under cold engine start or before the engine is warmed.

As I said before, It is not operator error. I can tell the difference between the two. But thank you.

As I said up top, I fully intend to do this, but I wanted to see if anyone here might have some insight.

Car and engine warm as warm can be, still does it.

Thanks guys. I will be taking it to a dealer this afternoon or monday. I will keep everyone informed and any further input is appreciated.

IMO, its just how the car works for the "Rev" thing. I was a bit concerned when I first got my car, but got used to it afterward. It seems to rev up a little when you push the clutch and then very slowly drop down in rpms. I forget what the reasoning was, but it is normal. I'll see if I can find the thread...

Here ya go- My 1.8 pedals response are slow, so slow,,,,

Rev hang, appears to be very common. Here is Galbi from fortitude forums explanation of this- To prevent dumping of unburnt fuel into the precious catalytic converters. Overtime, it will damage it, leading to costly repairs. A premature death of a catalytic converter will make your car fail the states emissions test. The "rev hang" slows down the the sudden drop in rpm to fully burn off all excess fuel.

I'd take it in to get the rattle checked, especially if you can reproduce it at a standstill.
