I took the TSB for the cracking noise in the steering shaft into the dealership and the part that was needed had to be ordered. So last week it finally came in stock and today I finally had time to go the dealer and get it fixed. After 2 hours the car was ready and was told that the noise was still there, I checked and it was, next they told me that they suspect that its in the upper portion of the steering shaft near the steering wheel. They told me that they need to take off the steering wheel to get to it which obviously makes sense. I'm just worried, I never been in a situation where the steering wheel needed to be taken off. Its okay right?

Keep all the service reports just in case you still have problems and have to go to Toyota.

yeah trust me.........I will!! That would bother the hell out of me and then I would have to go back and tell them to fix it over and over and over again until they get it right! lol I just dont want them to scratch up anything on the car.. ex. leather on the steering wheel, dash, etc
I replaced the upper portion of my steering column on my XRS due to it making noise, not sure what was causing it. Had multiple people look at it extensively. Not sure if it was in the shaft/telescopic part or the electric motor, but it was definitely in the upper section there.
