I've been getting a rattle from the passenger side B-pillar just above where the seatbelt is mounted for like 6 months now.. Its mostly intermittent, but when it starts its pretty annoying. Took it to the dealer twice and once was able to reproduce it and the manager heard it. They tried taking it off and examining it, even replaced the clips with new ones but the rattle is back.
Driving with the constant rattle drives me crazy.. it mostly comes when the road is rough where the car tends to shake a lot. I was wondering if I took it off and used some spray near the contact areas behind it may go off.. but don't know how to remove the B-Pillar cover.. Does anyone know how to do this?

I have the same rattle and the bad news is that in one year they haven’t been able to fix it in 2 different dealers.
i have the same issue on both sides (2010 xrs). i dont think its in the pillar. after careful tracking the noise down it seems to be under the headliner near the pillar. i suspect some sort of electrical connector or wiring holder vibrating against the steel roof or on the headliner itself. i can tame the noise by pressing up on the headliner near/around the pillar, but the issue is still there. i am reluctant at this point to pull off parts to get under the headliner. i am thinking perhaps if i can see whats there i can use a small dab of silicone to keep the connector or wire from making noise.
if you find the same thing and dig into it, please post some pics...
I have the noise on the driver's side. Have not brought it to dealer's attention yet. Tried pressing the pillar and roof lining, cannot locate it. Going to rip it apart when weather gets warmer to see what's causing it.
I am not sure if it's the same thing that's causing the rattle you guys have, but I will throw it out there as a possibility....
There might a bolt that's loose within the pillar. I had such an issue on my passenger side B-pillar and I brought the car to the dealer. On a test drive, the service tech heard the same thing and confirmed the noise. They tried to duplicate it and it took them a week to find the cause. I had to leave my car at the dealer for an entire week, but I was determined to have Toyota fix the problem, especially when they heard what I heard. The dealer did offered me a courtesy car but I declined. Anyway, the problem was fixed and the service advisor mentioned he'd put the problem into Toyota's TSB database. So go check....
@TACO_KID - This is the exact behavior I'm having.. the sound comes just under the headliner and gets less if I pressing near the pillar..
@soundboy - Good to hear that u got urs fixed.. so maybe there is a solution to the rattle!
The dealership wanted me to leave the car for a few days to identify and fix the issue the last time I went.. but I cudn't give the car that time. I hope if they get more time on on it they'll be able to fix it. Will let them have it for a few days on my next service @ 20,000km
I shall keep you guys posted on what happens.
Cheers!

Interesting...I've got the same issue. Dealer hasn't been able to resolve. Going back in this week to get it fixed - but will check out the roofliner idea. Also - different ticking noise in the drivers window seal...at the back & top corner. Seems to be a differernt type of rubber (more like plastic bonded to rubber??) If I hold it, the ticking stops. Drives me nuts when my wife keeps the radio volume low.
there was one TN member here who dismantled the insides of his corolla and found out that the wires were the ones causing the rattle. the wires could be lined a bit loose so they shake and cause the rattle. i apologize but i just can't remember his member name.

this rattle issue is not isolated. the 2010 LE loaner i just got has the same annoying rattle on both sides of the vehicle. why they did put a small piece of foam up there to prevent the rattle !?
if you have a rattle please contact your local dealer and complain about the noise, let them know you are not the only owner having this issue. Toyota will then issue a TSB.
I've noticed some times its the height adjustment piece for the seat belt that rattle in its place, just put your hand on it when it happens on the driver side and it might rule out one cause. On the passenger side, sometimes the seat belt hook stays stuck on the seat while touching the vinyl and it make some noise, quite annoying until you move it.

Did you guys ever find the cause? I am beginning to hear this rattle on driver's side and would LOVE to fix it or get it fixed
mine is definitely in the headliner, has to be some wiring or something in there that just flaps around. i have not yet been able to dig into this issue yet..... i am surprised no TSB for this yet. maybe its limited to a certain sequence of VIN's ?
