How come?

When I coast approaching a stop light my litres per 100km are between 1.2-1.6 in neutral and even less when I leave it in gear with the RPM's slowly coming down. I would've thought the car in neutral was burning less fuel? Just curious....

In neutral, there's no km covered but you're still burning fuel. I'm guessing the computer is assuming the car is not moving when in neutral.

When there's RPM with no load, as it is when you're still in gear, the Fuel Cut activates and shuts off the injectors. When you put it in neutral, the ECM must still supply idle fuel, hence the 1.2 -1.6 number.

You will always use less fuel when in gear vs neutral because when in gear there is vacuum created & much less fuel is used than when in neutral with out the vacuum. When in gear but off the throttle the car is using little to no fuel. This also works great when going downhill with the added benefit of better control of the car since you have engine braking to control the overall speed of the car.
