Huge Problem..

I was pulling out of a gas station the other day. Put it in drive. began to crank the wheel. i felt a sort of tightness, as if the power steering went out. so i gave it a little muscle and heard a loud pop. got out to look around. saw nothing. the problem kept occurring on every turn i made. loud noise and hard to turn. brought it to toyota. they called me last night telling me that they think its the transaxle. although thats cover under warranty they said it was due to a front end impact. the front end "impact" was in November when i slid off the road at 10 mph and hit a mailbox. barely cracked my bumper... They're going to take apart the tranny and the axels and then they'll know if its under warranty. if its not i am liable for all the labor it took to take my car apart. then have to pay to fix it. i think this is ridiculous considering this problem came up in the middle of a parking lot.. I just hope its under warranty and they fix this. or it will most likely be the end of my corolla. Has anyone heard of this problem or does anyone have any suggestions for me??

Thanks,
Colin

Did you claim insurance for that front end little accident? If not, how do they know about it, don't tell me you told them....

nope didn't claim it. it put a SLIGHT dent in the bottom of my front bumper. i guess they saw the dent and figured.. i said "i'd like to see the proof of this front end impact having anything to do with my steering" and thats when they decided theyre going to take apart everything to see whats the problem. they cannt show me proof. theyre is no way in hell from hitting that mailbox at such low speeds...6 MONTHS AGO it would have anything to do with this problem

i sure as hell dont have $4000 dollars in my pocket. i hope they dont. i'd be furious. a car with 25,000 miles on it shouldn't have this problem...ever.

Cant you still make an insurance claim? Get your bumper fixed and have Toyota and your insurance company work it out.

make an insurance claim on what? a fender bender that happened 6 months ago? that wouldn't work. and that has absolutely nothing to do with the problem.. How would a problem arise from an accident 6 months later?

You said you slid into a mail box and damaged your bumper! Where I live I can make an insurance claim to have the bumper fixed. I do not think your accident has anything to do with the steering, but this way if Toyota said the steering is the result of a front end collision it should be repaired under that same claim.

I can tell you if Toyota (not this dealer) won't warranty it because of this "fender bender" I dang sure would be making a claim and have the big ol corporate law firm of the insurance company go to bat for me. I wouldn't pay any 4g out of my pocket on a repair for a new car.

There would be no way that they could tie a low speed fender bender that hardly did anything to your car into the transaxle failing. I would guess that the warranty will cover it after they see no damage other than a small ding on the bumper, that's what bumpers are for!

Whats the big deal? If it is under warranty you get it fixed for free; If not pay the deductible and file an insurance claim. You have up to a year to file for a claim after a car accident in most cases, but get it done now.

thats why they call them stealerships.

hopefully they dont blame it on you. thats just rediculous. but then again, most dealerships will find any possible damage they can find, they will blame it on that.

my dad brough his tacoma to toyota and we get it back with a cracked windshield, and they denied that it was their fault and blamed it on us due to some little thing on the truck, i forgot what it was but it was a stupid reason..
